[QUOTE=andyman1970;1269957]Didn't they recently go back and rework and re-release Superman Returns with improved audio? I'm not for a complete boycott of Warner titles, but I will not purchase a title that doesn't at least attempt to improve in every aspect for a Blu-Ray release. Thus I did not purchase Interview With the Vampire, one of my favorite horror titles
I agree. I wanted INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE. But no uncompressed audio track, meant no purchase. I need a big reason to upgrade from my DTS standard dvd. It is sad that some blu-rays are being manufactured without uncompressed audio. I think it's sad that Warner put just 16 bit uncompressed audio on Batman Begins. It should have been 24 bit. Kill Bill had 24 bit audio and had a smaller domestic gross than Batman Begins. Yet Kill Bill has better audio. I wanted a few older films on blu, but I decided against purchasing. But with no uncompressed track, then why bother buying them on blu. |

It is getting sad. Warner is making more terrible audio blus because people are still buying them. I think they are taking advantage of people's ignorance. What they don't know can't hurt them. I suspect some people don't know or understand the importance of uncompressed 24 bit audio.
I think they make more money putting out a blu ray with a compressed audio track. |

or maybe they know about uncompressed audio but don't think it's that big of a deal to them.

Okay, seriously it's getting annoying. I know that on most of their releases they have the 5.1 Dolby Digital and not TrueHD, but COME ON. It isn't THAT bad. How is it that when DVDs were out, Dolby Digital was amazing but now that TrueHD is out all of a sudden people are FREAKING OUT about something that isn't very important to the overall experience. Yes, TrueHD is WAYY better and more enjoyable and brings a better experience, but if you are still getting a good quality (not great) audio, then what is all this rambling about? It is extremely annoying to see 50000000000 threads EVERYDAY about this issue. If you have this issue, post on the already 5000000000 threads about it and not make a new one.

no one is saying that it is. we're just saying that it isn't always the be all end all that a lot of people are trying to make it. the primary thing here is the movie. yes, we would all like the best presentation of our favorite movies. but it's not imperative to enjoying the movie. i, myself, am more concerned about video quality than i am about audio quality. and in the area of video quality warners hasn't let me down so far.

I think it's official:
Lossless audio is to blu-ray what anamorphic widescreen was to DVD. Something that should be on every title but isn't for reasons beyond understanding. Actually it's even more the case. Old 4:3 movies obviously couldn't be anamorphic but even old mono soundtracks could benefit from lossless. After all, one-channel lossless is still better than one-channel lossy. By the time BDs are as cheap as DVD, lossless will probably be standard, just like new non-anamorphic DVDs are almost unheard of these days. Last edited by AintNoSin; 11-04-2008 at 06:37 PM. |
