They clearly put a lot of work into that scene .. but I was overall dissapointed with it. I think the space battle in Serenity is a lot cooler ... at least the scene itself is. The main cast fly through that entire battle and it gives you a real sense of a battle and urgency. In Star Wars they just kind of fly over it and it feels a lot more artificial.

For a 'Star Wars' movie...NOTHING beats this opening scene.

Many of my favorite opening scenes have already been mentioned, so I will just have to add The Hurt Locker.

You haven't even caught your breath when the scene ends with Ben Stiller's character in a stretcher surrounded by police and firemen with Mary's brother screaming "HE WAS MASTURBATING!!!!!!!!!"

THAT was funny. And a great opening scene.
+1

Also like the opening of Heat

I love the opening scene of "Lethal Weapon 2". That's how every sequel to an action movie should start. No slow build up, just a chase scene right off the bat.

Another great example of that thinking is "Quantum of Solace". That car chase (featuring the abso-freaking-lutely perfect Aston Martin DBS) is incredible. That's really the only part of the movie I need to watch.

And though it's much hated, I loved the opening of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". I actually like the whole movie. Yeah, it's cheesy, but it works for me. It's my favorite of all the X films, and I don't see anything wrong with the Deadpool origin. Now that it's out of the way they can make his own movie and not have to worry about explaining anything. Which ties right into my "start sequels with an action scene" theory.
