I found a way to get around the freezing issue with WB discs after firmware update 2.09, download the above file and extract it to a usb flash drive, make sure your player has no disc in it, turn it on and insert the usb flash drive, the player should automatically recognize the file. upgrade(downgrade) to version 2.08, after I did this, (only took 5 minutes) I was able to play Clash of the Titans and The Losers, 2 titles I was not able to play before.

If you call samsung they will tell you there is no way to revert the firmware, that is a boldfaced lie. and they will also tell you that version 2.09 does not have these issues, that too is a fabrication. from this point on I will not be updating this players firmware until I can't play discs on it again.

Plus from what I heard, Samsung wants up to 160 dollars to repair the unit. There IS NOTHING WRONG with it, the firmware is faulty. Just an FYI to everyone.

PS, I am not responsible for anything that may go wrong, just trying to help. this is for the Samsung BD-P1600 unit only!!!
That´s great news!
Only problem is that this file won´t work for me, for my player is from Brazil, so I´d need the XAX file, which I haven´t been able to find yet.
Will keep looking tough.

sorry to hear that, I didn't think about that being a problem too, I looked the file you need, and I can't seem to find it either, either way, I will likely not buy any samsung products in the future. The fact that they won't admit to their faulty firmware update, when it has been PROVEN to be the problem, is reason enough for me not to purchase anymore electronics from them. Im likely gonna end up just watching BD's on the PS3, at least I know it will work.

Managed to sort the Clash of the Titans problem on the BD-P1600 without having to downgrade the firmware.

Also had same problem with the Hangover.

Make sure you have the latest firmware installed. I think its 2.09
Remove the disc and close the draw.
Hold down the fast forward/skip button on the front of the unit.

The unit will now reset itself. When complete the disc should work along with any other Warner Bros Titles that had stopped working.

100% agreed. I bought this player about a year ago because it had the best prices at that point, but right now prices are much better, so when I decide to change my unit, will certainly choose a different brand.
Another thing that really makes me mad is the fact that the BD-P1600 is not PAL compatible. My old DVD player had no problems playing PAL discs, so I didn´t even bother finding out if the BD-p1600 would play them too.

Sardaukar you are a Class A Genius !!! Many thanks and 10 free Internets to you!!

I knew there had to be a way to fix this issue with my BD-P1600 and when I saw your post my eyes lit up. Reverting back to 2.08 did it for me perfectly. My problem was trying to play Book of Eli (Netflix rental disk) and Harry Potter 5, both of which are WB. With 2.08 they both work great.

Thanks again!

I had the same issue with my player. Locked up on Losers, Bad Cop, and Clash of the Titans at the spinning disk where it's loading the menu structure off the BD. The Samsung site has the 2.08 version of the firmware (look at the top of the support page for the BD-P1600). I downloaded it to a flash, installed the flash in the host USB in the back, and the player rolled back. Works great now.

Have tried 3 more WB discs (Sweeney Todd, The Prestige and Zodiac), they all work fine.
My problem continues to be only with The Hangover.
Hope they come out with firmware 2.10 soon.

It looks like they went back to 2.08. If you look the release date, it says august 5, 2010.
Have to wait a couple more days tough until it appers at the brazilian samsung page.

Default OK 2.08 Downgrade didn't work, now what?

I successfully downgraded my BD-P1600 to Firmware 2.08 from 2.09 and it made no difference whatsoever. The last 5 discs I rented from Netflix (all since early Aug) will not even load. The movies are Dear John (2 copies), Edge of Darkness and The Bounty Hunter (also 2 copies). The discs spin for about 5 to 10 seconds and they eject with the error message "The Disc can not be played".

I have always upgraded via the net, does anybody know when Samsung released 2.09. It is dated early May, 2010 but I know it was not released then.

CDs and DVDs all play just fine so I don't think it is a physical drive issue. In my emails from Samsung they indicate that it is a firmware issue and that I have to wait for the next rev and of course they told me to not downgrade.

Since I am out of warranty, not that happy with the box and certainly not pleased with Samsung tech support I am considering chucking it and starting over with another manufacturer. Any suggestions.

Any ideas or suggestions to DIY repair or what models to consider will be greatly appreciated.

Can´t really help you with Netflix. We don´t have it here in Brazil. Sorry.

About firmware 2.09, as far I as know, it was released late May.

Default Firmware update 2.12

I updated my player and now whenever I play ANY BluRay I get this message "An incompatible video signal has been received. Check output device settings". I have not changed anything on my TV or BluRay player except for the firmware update.

It plays DVDs fine just won't play BluRays properly, I either get no image at all or the image is a stretched and I can only see the top half.

Anyone else experience this?

Default Blockbuster showing "Can Not Connect To Netowrk"

Hi everyone. I just performed the Firmware upgrade to 2.12 because the Blockbuster program stopped working about 3 weeks ago. This did not seem to fix the problem. Netflix, Youtube & Pandora all seem to be working fine. Is anyone else having the same issue??? Or hopefully someone has a suggestion to fix this. Thanks.

Default loading issues

I've downloaded the latest firmware and reset the unit, but I still can't play Ironman 2 or Cars. Is anyone able to play these blurays?

Thanks,
RD

I couldn't play IM:2 after the update, so I followed the steps to reset the player and now it works perfectly and heres what i did. No disc in the player powered on, held the >> button till i saw reset, unplugged the player, then held the power button for 5-10 sec, replugged the player back and now everything seems of, although not sure what firmware would be currently on the player?

I don't have cars, but I did watch Ironman 2 this weekend. I have version 2.12 of the firmware.

Although it would play, I had the same problem I've had with several discs where the audio and video gets out of sync. This is usually corrected by pausing and resuming playback, but is annoying. If watching closely, you can visually detect it by noticing a scene accelerate as if it's in fast forward mode.

So ultimately it played, with that one annoyance. Not sure if anyone else has noticed that.

The 2.12 update did appear to resolve a playback issue with Toy Story 3 though.

Doug
