I just got back from seeing it tonight. Up until a few hours ago, my interest in this movie was nothing more than mild curiosity, but I had a free night and a day off tomorrow so I caved. I'll be the first one to admit when I'm wrong and unfairly misjudge something, and to be honest this movie blew my expectations. I still don't like the original mini-series; it's overrated as hell, and I will never get the fascination/attachment to it. However, I quite liked this new film and look forward to the sequel/Part 2. It handled the story a lot better and was what the mini-series should have been more like. A few nitpicks, though...

1. The sound design. Jeez, was this thing loud. I had a blaring legit migraine by the end of the movie. It could have just been the theater, or the way the movie was mixed, but yeah.. obnoxiously, uncomfortably loud. I still have a headache from it.

2. Jump scares- Seriously??? I get that this is 2017 and it seems like every single horror movie nowadays needs to have them, but give it a rest. I say it all the time, and I'll say it again; JUMP SCARES DO NOT MAKE A HORROR FILM. They're cheap and tacky, and frankly it is disappointing when a director will slip them in. I applaud this film for avoiding a lot of the horror tropes and trappings, but jump scares were not needed here. The movie was chilling on it's own, and it cheapened it a little bit for me.

3. Some of the CGI was unneeded. When he'd open his mouth and show the rows of razor sharp teeth, while his mouth and jaw are unhinged and dislocated, it looked cartoony. Reminded me way too much of the Fright Night remake.

Lastly, I am never going to see a night before screening for a movie ever again, and my experience in this theater completely ruined it. People were being loud and just would not shut up. During the trailers and before the lights go out, I understand, but when it goes dark and the movie starts you be courteous.

This movie was AWESOME. Absolutely loved it. Minor quibbles here and there,
[Show spoiler]like a lack of resolution for the Bowers gang
, and the 3rd act is somewhat rushed. Bring on IT: Chapter II.

Sad to hear this relies on jump scares.

Anyway, I loved it! Already one of the best horror movies I've seen. I'd give it an A.

Oh, and one more thing.

I'm tired of having to tell people to shut the hell up during a movie, or hearing people say shit like:

"Noooo! Don't do it!"

Because, yeah. Your commentary will totally change the outcome.

Jump scares and poor cgi. The sewer scene with Georgie and his boat is embarrassing compared to the way it was handled in the miniseries.

I loved loved loved the use of metal music during the

There definitely are jump scares. This movie is practically littered with them

Any other book readers not too happy with Ben's character in the film? It's been a few years since I read it but I remember him being very insecure.

Anyway all in all I found it to be a pretty good film.

And being that Stuckmann hates them he didn't even mention them in his review. I think that's very contradictory of him.

I haven't seen the film yet, but, does Skarsgard do well enough for a best actor oscar nomination?

I think that this new movie does an excellent job conveying Ben's insecurity. This was one of my favorite aspects of the film.

The scene where
[Show spoiler]Ben looks in Beverly's bedroom and sees his postcard, only to see Bill and Beverly talking comfortably in the bathroom seconds later,
is such a great moment.

I hear that statement so much that it's gotten to the point of almost parody

There is quite a bit of CG in this film, but it really helps it, making Pennywise the perfect combination of practical makeup and digital. Some could say some of the digital effects look a bit ridiculous, but again, it's Pennywise.

I'm a huge advocate for cinema and doing things for the big screen but does anyone think there was anything in this adaptation that specifically played well from being in this format that couldn't have benefited more from the extra room to breathe if it had been a modern TV adaption?

It's also heavily reliant on an overly generic soundtrack to try and build atmosphere instead of actually building it through the horror imagery itself.
