Default 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

Anyone watching this?

Normally I wouldn't care but it usually has a bunch of really good WTF?!? moments. And this year isn't any different.

First off, it started with a touching speech by Madonna and a great tribute/performance by Janet for her brother Michael Jackson.

Now...onto wierdness....

Russell Brand is hosting again....expect everything out of his mouth to be unfunny and inappropriate.

Taylor Swift wins best Female Video and during her acceptance speech, she gets interupted by Kanye West saying Beyonce should have won instead.

Then there was Lady Gaga's performance.....which was.....bloody?

i lost ALL respect for kanye west. what he did was childish and not accurate at all. first off taylor swift is like 16 or 17 winning a big award(not sure if its her first) how can you cut her off like that? and ummm, award was best female video. beyonce video is stupid, its a bunch of girls dancing around in tight clothes, no originality at all. oh kanye, your haircut is stupid! sorry rant over. green day was great as usual!

Say what you want about his tactics, but Kanye West is a businessman. The fact that this thread was made and is talking about his outburst proves he gets his desired effect.

I think "Single Ladies" should've won, simply because it created such a sensation.

Taylor Swift is in denial about what genre she belongs to. She's not a country artist. And Swift's "You Belong With Me" has a hook in it that was lifted directly from a Bowling For Soup song.

Beyonce should've won.

You know I'm a fan of good hip-hop music and in a time when there's not a lot of it being made, it's great to see hear Kanye West come out with the kind of music that he does that I enjoy. What he did tonight does not change my opinion about him as an artist, but I do agree that what Kanye did was out of line. Not only did he claim that Beyonce's video was one of the best video of the "all time" (which I completely disagree with), but he took away Taylor Swift's moment. What could have been going through her mind while that was happening? I say that Jay-Z abused his status by supposedly keeping Chris Brown off the BET Awards this year by threatening the company of a no-show if they let Brown on stage, and in this case, Kanye did much the same thing, although he did it in front of a huge live audience, both in attendance and at home. You can't un-ring a bell. That moment will be talked about for years to come.

Kanye West is a great artist, but I don't think any apology will make up for what he did. Someone said earlier how would he feel if it happened to him? Well I don't think he would be speechless about it.

I will say this too though, isn't it kind of odd that Swift was right behind the curtains after Beyonce won her award, cause aren't they usually either back in their seats or somewhere in the back being photographed or interviewed? Hmm.....

I have to give it to Beyonce for allowing Taylor to come back out to finish her speech. That's pretty classy! But the damage was already done by what's his name.

Beyonce probably felt bad about what happened and sent someone to ask Taylor if she would like to finish her speech. The guest that win don't always return to their seats. They do interviews or start celebrating backstage. The press seeing what happened probably was all over her.

And yes.....the quietest part of the show is when Brand telling jokes. You'd think Dane Cook was up there

Dude....that's being a little rough on Dane Cook...

I do have to admit, I watched Russell Brand's stand up in NYC last friday night on Comedy Central's secret stash and it was quite funny. It's just his script when hosting is terrible.

There is a story up on yahoo about it already

Quote:
NEW YORK, New York -- Taylor Swift's first MTV Video Music Awards win was one to remember.

The country cutie picked up her first Moonman on Sunday night for Best Female Video for "You Belong To Me," but didn't have the chance to finish her speech thanks to Kanye West, who took the stage to interrupt her.

"Thank you so much! I always dreamed about what it would be like to maybe win one of these some day but I never actually thought it would happen," Taylor said as she accepted the award, choking up. "I sing country music so thank you so much for giving me the chance to win a VMA award."

But before she could continue, Kanye took the stage to praise one of her competitors, Beyonce, who was nominated for "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)."

"Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'm [going to] let you finish -- but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time," Kanye said, earning the boos of the crowd as Beyonce looked shocked in the audience.

A source on the scene told Access Hollywood on Sunday night that the rapper, who was photographed on the red carpet with girlfriend Amber Rose earlier in the evening, was kicked out of the ceremony shortly thereafter.

And Taylor didn't just earn support from the crowd.

Singer P!nk, also a nominee for Best Female Video and who was spotted smiling when Taylor took the stage, Tweeted, "Kanye west is the biggest piece of s*** on earth. Quote me... My heart goes out to taylor swift. She is a sweet and talented girl and deserved her moment. She should know we all love her."

A number of stars took to their Twitter pages to support Taylor, including Spencer Pratt, who Tweeted, "Pray for Taylor Swift!!! @heidimontag is so upset about evil kanye that she is about to cry for Taylor Swift!"

Former MTV VJ Carson Daly took Taylor's side as well.

"Moments in my days were caused by alcohol not ego. Thy were harmless fun. Taylor's a real pro," he Tweeted. "Whatta bully move."

It wasn't Kanye's first blow-up at an MTV event. At the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006, he ambushed the stage after losing to Justice and Simian's "We Are Your Friends" in the Best Video category.

MTV airs music videos at midnight EST. I got DirecTV on the west coast but get the east coast feed for the non-local channels. Its pretty awesome, plus with Palladia HD, they air a nice healthy block of music videos in HD at the same time.

and what was with the final nominees? there was not one rock band in there. at least put green day in there. they only performed and released another great selling cd recently. i hate mtv with their stupid pop/ hip hop bullshit. and for the record, the only reason beyonces single ladies song was such a success was becasue of the SNL skit with JT. oh, but that was a very good move that beyonce did with taylor at the end.

Default 2009 VMA awards

Did anybody watch the awards last night? I haven't watched them in several years, but tuned in last night to see the tribute Janet jackson did for her brother. That particular performance was less than what I had expected, but overall I was impressed with the entire show.

Taylor swift had a very nice performance that started in the subways below Radio City and involved her riding the subway to Radio City whilst singing live (you could tell it was not lip syncing.) Her vocal performance was good, and I was really impressed by the timing involved in the performance.

I'm no Lady Gaga fan, I don't hate her but have never been overly impressed by her either; but her performance of Paparazzi was unique and theatrical.

Pink did one of her arial rope acrobatic performances which never fail to impress.

Kanye West was the stain on the show last night. He once again showed what a completely classless person he can be when Taylor Swift was awarded the Best Female Video award. He went on stage, took the mic from her, and declared that Beyonce had made one of the "best videos of all time" with Single Ladies. Swift did not get to finish her acceptance speech and left the stage crying. Later in the show when Beyonce won Best Video of the Year, she recalled how winning her first VMA as a very young member of Destiny's Child was one of the most thrilling moments of her life. She invited Swift back up on stage to finish her acceptance speech.... where the crowd gave her a long standing ovation.
