I don't have much problem in this film judging from the screenshots, but i see a pattern here, and all films start to look alike.

You're comparing it to a DVD era master that is likely much too red (like many DVD era masters), so comparing the two makes the new one look tealer/greener. This is an optical illusion. There's no teal color timing. Just look at his shirt collar, the newspaper, the sign in the background. If there was some teal grading, those would not look as white as they do

edit: I'll even try to prove that it's merely a trick of the eyes. I've uploaded a very noticeable teal graded shot of that scene. When you roll over the image to see the original, notice how "un-teal" it looks now. It looks quite normal, and that suit that looked green hued in the comparison above looks very much gray now, and the other, like the reds the books spines, etc..look their normal colors too

well, when i say that all films start to look alike and teal seems to be a restoration "trend", I had something like this in mind (I could add many more films from different era and area):

Again, the Mac has a tendency to darken and shift the color of images. That image, when viewed on my HDTV, looks slightly less blue. It looks COMPLETELY correct.

I didn't say that teal affects all the picture. Just the blues/greys and gives them a greenish tint.

That doesn't even make sense, and it's not happening to begin with. You're making something out of nothing, perhaps based on valid concerns of past transfers/restorations of other movies.

I don't think it's your Mac's fault.
I noticed it earlier from vidjunkie's screenshots.
Anyway, it was just how I see it, that's why I provided that screenshot with 4 different films that have a greenish look where there was a grey or blue earlier.

Is it not possible they were just made that way?
Have colours changed in 60 years?

It's just that I can't believe that a 1942 film and a 1995 film could produce the same color to depict blue or grey, since technology has changed.
Anyway, case closed. I shouldn't have brought it up.
I admit that the teal in JTTCOTE is not as pronounced as in the others or as in The Inn of Sixth happiness for example, but the minute I saw vidjunkie's screenshots, they seemed to lean towards that way...

While I agree that these things can and often should matter, at some point a movie should be compelling enough where the presentation isn't as dominant a player in your mind. Focusing on slight trends and variations as opposed to major flaws do both the movie and your viewing experience a disservice. I'm not the first to say it here on the forum, but it bears repeating: Sometimes life is too short.

And that is sometimes why I semi avoid forum talk and online reviews/screencaps for favorite movies of mine. lol. Dont want to get hung up on the details all the time. Some of the time, yes...

well, at least to me, discussing the teal or any bit and tiny detail in Bluray releases, keeps my mind off my real problems.

Yeah, I remember watching Deep Throat when I was a horny 18-year-old and not caring one bit that the film was as grainy as heck.

If you go back and forth from his teal shot to the real BD shot the suit looks grey as grey can be. I think he proved his optical illusion point rather perfectly.

Terminator and Aliens were made more teal, I believe Cameron even said so. They still look nowhere near as bad as people act like they do though.

I understand your point. Having over seen transfers as a consultant it all depends how is timing the transfer. Because of the way films are done today all you need is younger person at the controls who is used to the video based edit stations of today's films they by assuming it should look the same. It would be an honest mistake out to ignorance. However, it should be caught by someone over seeing the project.

I haven't seen this film since I was a kid, but I remember loving it. Just received my new bluray this week, and I just had the best time watching it after all these years. Now as an adult, the 'boring parts' make more sense to me and are no longer boring. This film has great characters, great scenery, special effects, cinematography, great acting, pre-'Raiders of the Lost Ark" action, and is all around a wonderful film.

Sadly, MY kids will prefer Brendan Fraiser's version over this because this one is just too 'old' for them. (sigh) Kids today......

I'm pleased to report the new 4K restoration is a SUBSTANTIAL improvement over the previous release! The difference is, in humble opinion, night and day!

Noise and defects are removed and objects are more detailed (but the film doesn't appear overly-sharpened to my eye.) I still see some film grain (vs. excessive noise). For the scenes I quickly checked, you get more of the original frame with the 2015 4K restoration. The 2012 transfer is rather significantly cropped by comparison. (Again, I did not watch the entire disc, nor did I compare more than a few scenes.)

The improvement is dramatic enough that I decided to borrow one screenshot from Blu-ray.com (2012 release) and I pulled one from my Blu-ray (2015 4K release). Here's that screenshot comparison:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/116007

Everyone that plans to replace their 2012 version with the new 4K restoration, please raise your hand!

Mark
ORDERED ! !

And now, I will soon have an autographed copy of the 4K restoration !!

(The TT BD from 2012 was autographed on the BD slipcover....so that will be the new slipcover for the 4K copy )

Amen!
I've been saying it for years. I'm convinced there are a select few on here that can't be happy until they have found flaws in a given transfer. I understand wanting the best viewing experience possible, and I'm all for that...but not to the point of literally pausing a BD hundreds, if not thousands, of times to analyze every pixel.
Eh, to each his/her own, I suppose...but yes, life is way too short indeed!
