I'd be careful replacing a couple of letters with stars when you swear, so that a part of the word is still visible, as it evades the sites censorship filter, which technically is against the site rules... I was suspended for doing exactly that recently. Just thought I'd let you know.

Fixed. Thank you, I will keep that in mind in the future.

Insulting an entire group of people is actually worse than insulting a specific person.

What's so shocking about it?... Boxing is a hobby of mine, and when two men have an issue, getting in the ring and having a friendly bout can be a great way to settle it

I added two digital titles to my collection today. Not bad for someone who supposedly "hates" streaming.

I would really want it to be downloadable so that if I hosted a movie I could have the movie before I tried to show it to other people.

People love to watch movies at my house. I have a 127” 2.40:1 screen and 5.2 2 Atmos setup.

If I hosted a movie like Crawl that I have in 4K on ITunes and also on blu Ray I show the unconverted blu Ray for the reliability and the lossless audio. Actually even if I watch alone I use the blu for the same reasons and the higher overall quality.

My 1200 iTunes or 853 VUDU movie accounts are mostly used by others and it sure beats loaning out the discs.

Have any of you posted in the 'Let's Put Faces to Names' thread before?:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=14021

I've always enjoyed seeing what members that I regularly interact with look like... I think it helps with conversations too, when you can put a face to who you are talking to.

Thanks mate. Just think, I can even begin to draw my works pension next year when I hit 55, although of course I'll get a lot less than if I were to leave it in for longer. Now the mere mention of drawing a pension does make me feel old.

Those work based ones are decent to be fair. Mine was frozen when I switched jobs but it’s even worth having a couple of different frozen ones.

Very true. I have to wait until I'm 67 before I can get a state pension, so until then I'll be drawing on my personal and work based pensions. The government (very conveniently) keep moving the goalposts, so as you're younger than me, it may well change again when you're a little older.

Yeah, I think it will be 70. It’s a joke, how many people are going to be able to work at that age?

Not that many I wouldn't have thought. It's alright for these MP's lounging around on nice comfy seats all day long in Parliament - no wonder they can keep on going. (My apologies for going off-topic).

Or perhaps I won't. I have heard it all before.

I trust my eyes/ears and I trust the facts. A lower bit rate more often than not adds up to less quality.

It is like having a photo collection on digital. Do I need to stupidly go over each and every example at a higher compression to understand that a raw file is going to give me better results? I don't have to be hit by a car to know that it hurts. One can learn through observation or summed up data to come to a solid conclusion.

Quote:
It's a fact that there are plenty of Blu-ray discs with all kinds of compression artifacts too, and are absolute rubbish.
Though I stated it before, I will state it again. I don't argue for exceptions. The chances of having a "rubbish" bluray is because of crappy companies or lazy QC. It has nothing to do with the capability of a bluray/4K (and yes DVD in small storage because it too can store higher resolution as well, just it is data and not the standard) that far exceeds anything that is put out digitally streamed. Even when there are those "rubbish" examples, often the digital streaming counterpart is just as bad. Now do I mean always, of course not.

But this may be a shocker to you. I would rather have a lesser quality bluray (and in some cases I just go back to the DVD if it is that bad) then have a streaming version. It isn't on my shelf, so in most cases with me it does not exist and I am very happy about that.

Quote:
Some of the people that regularly post in this thread that love talking up how great discs are, and their quality compared to streaming and online services, own plenty of turd discs (if they really cared about quality as much they preach in here, their collections would reflects this, and they would have other disc versions that are known to be better than what they currently have). They claim to be knowledge, but it's not hard to see that they really have little idea, and the truth is, they have done **** all comparing... They simply base their claims around a general idea, that because physical media is capable of a higher standard, that this is always that case.
I don't argue for other people when it comes to my reasoning (and yes there are some that can only RELY on "experts" instead of formulating their own ideas or conclusions). For my collection I search through multiple countries and do the research and buy what is best. Streaming isn't in my equation at all, and likely never will be.

Quote:
None of the handful of physical media pro crowd that regularly post in this thread, so far have put their money where their mouth is...
What is this standard you are setting? Again, it isn't rocket science. Add up the bit rates and understand the crap quality that is being streamed. Buying physical most every time destroys streaming unless you got idiotic companies like Paramount who actively sabotage their physical counterpart by releasing inferior quality on purpose.

Guess what, I don't support that crap. I would rather watch a DVD then buy a 4K stream because I absolutely refuse to let these studios make me rent what I should watch at any time of my choosing. The DVD if I am stuck with that, are often just fine.

Thank goodness for boutique companies rectifying most of the problems with my watch list. I am patient and see no reason to jut go and stream anything out there when there are so many fantastic releases coming at me left and right that I can't keep up as it is!

Quote:
I don't care whose friends with them or not, they do attack people over lots of things in this thread, and it's about time that they actually put up, or shut up.
While I don't support attacking anyone, I also see some contradictions here. You may not believe this, but they don't have to "put up" anything. Just like with me, I do not have to justify my decisions to anyone. There is no need to prove that this stream is better than this disc. Do the research yourself and you will see the facts that in most every case it isn't even close.

Heck how is this one for shooting fish in a barrel. Up until recently you couldn't even get a decent Atmos sound option let alone it being better quality than what you get on physical. Geez is this even a debate?

Quote:
Not everyone can afford the same, and people do convince themselves that a cheaper lower quality option is just as good as higher quality product. If I were come to your place, no doubt I could find heaps of junk, where there is something better, but you're happy with what you have. In some of these instances, you may think there is no or hardly any difference in the quality of what you have bought, compared to a more expensive higher quality product, and that the more costly item is not value for money.
What is with these silly assumptions and taking it to a personal level? You are not going to find ANY junk at my house bud. While not every bluray is going to be like the 4K Shining, there is still tons of research going into what I own and this goes back to every format possible. Actually out of everything you have written I get the most offended by this. If you knew the projects I have been working on and my quest to squeeze every last bit of quality I can to get accuracy, you would be apologizing real quick.

Just recently I did a remux of the Bee Gees in 96khz (yeah find that on "rubbish" on streaming??) and the hoops I had to go through to get this to line up with the full frame version was so annoying. Yet you think I am going to get this quality on a crappy ass stream??

Heaps of junk. Man you are barking up the wrong tree.

Quote:
The majority of people that prefer streaming aren't physical media haters...
Yeah they are, they not only hate, but they put up fantastical arguments to justify their compromise.

Quote:
This is mostly over the top nerd thoughts really, as far as I'm concerned... I'm a huge physical media supporter, so if someone like me thinks this, I can only imagine what that masses would say to you and call you if were to say it to them. PM me your address, I'll send you an Australian army Slouch hat with tin foil wrapped around it.for Christmas

Have you got any other hobbies other than home theater and sitting on your bum watching movies? I don't mean some other geeky thing, such making lego, I mean something that is a bit more physical, and gets you out of the house?
Oh wow, you just threw any kind of credibility you thought you had completely out the window. Yet again taking things to a personal level. Why would one take it to that level like you just did because I state the truth?

Look, I get it, there are all kinds of types that don't mind the studios controlling everything they do. As for what I do in my personal life, that is between me and the people close to me. This discussion is done. From the last few pages of bile that has been thrown around I can see your agenda.

I don't know why, but I feel so much closer to people that have been complained about. If you are against them, with the way you have posted just now, they surely can't be that bad.

As for the tired argument of not being able to afford. Ok, what does that have to do with the facts? So if you can't get an Atmos system than that means it is inferior to a sound bar?? If you can't get a decent 4K tv and get some black friday 300 dollar special, is that supposed to mean a Dolby Vision 4K from the original camera negative 70 mm transfer 80 to 100 mbps is going to look better on some youtube quality total and utter garbage stream often 17 mbps if you are lucky?

There is nothing to discuss. It isn't difficult to get it. Or one can just go look in the mirror and convince themselves over and over that streaming is better because of the exceptional "rubbish" examples that are about 1% of the total of a decent collection.

Now if you will excuse me. I am going to put on Don't Look Now in 4K Studio Canal restoration. I will be laughing thinking of the "rubbish" that I am watching and what the streaming lovers think that is just so much better.

This house is clean.

He continuously shoots himself in the foot with the crap he spouts.

He has (in my opinion) posted in this thread today with the sole intention of causing trouble.

When his earlier attempts didn’t work, he had a go at people’s lifestyles (presumably because he has took up fitness) like it’s any of his business.
He might alter his approach next time and come in with a new angle but I’m tempted to make him my first ever ignored member.

It wasn't shocking. Thats kind of the point I was making. There's nothing whatsoever wrong with boxing. It can be cathartic. But it also shouldn't be used as a problem solving tool. There are better methods for that.
