There's no laughing in the making of a superhero movie!

That should be a name of a book.

I guess they don't want any type scenes like this in the movie.

Nobody gives a crap about anything he's said in the past, and the "Sex with Superheroes" thing is not only FUNNY, but it lends additional geek credibility to him as a guy who knows about superheroes and isn't just a random director for hire.

That's the problem, though - people do give a crap about what someone has said in the past...hence why so many people have become annoyed with his actions, and why he's also deleted the post.

It may be fun -- and the article was funny, because it was so out there, just like Gunn is himself -- but it's definitely a stupid thing to have done. Especially when none of the superheroes you're making the film about even made the list - has he not heard about marketing?!

Who exactly are these people that give a crap? the "internet" people?

90% of the time the General Audience is the one who makes or breaks a film. I never heard a movie not doing well cause people on the internet didn't like it. If that was the case The Transformers series wouldn't have made nothing and tons of other movies people on the internet hate or think are stupid.

I don't know many people who go let's go see this. Then someone tells them that random people online say it sucked and then don't go.

But i guess everyone needs to take the Christopher Nolan approach to film making. Or any other director that gets people's blood pulsing.

Not true because the majority of people who complain about it on the Internet are the ones who think it's cool to be opposed to something - they don't have genuine reasons why they hate it, they simply follow other people's leads. Plus, they've probably been to see it in order to actually criticize it properly and say what they hated about it.

The people who are complaining about it now are doing it before the film opens - people complain about Transformers films after they've opened because they comment on how bad the film is. This means that the people who are complaining might not go to see it - this won't sit well with Disney, because they want as many as people to go and see it as possible (yes, even the people who complain on the Internet).

The way I see is that people shouldn't be surprised that he did this - the man has a series on YouTube called "James Gunn's PG Porn" for Pete's sake, so you kind of know who you're dealing with because of that. He was with Troma, and Super, no matter how you look at it, is more a critique of the superhero genre than anything. Of course he's going to do things like this...

Can't comment on his last two movies, as I pretty much stopped watching his stuff after the first two Scooby-Doo movies.
(Raja Gosnell may be an easy scapegoat, but you can't simply blame Raja for everything that came out of the characters' mouths.)

But an Acclaimed Indie tends to give directors the idea that breakout indie reception has now instantly wiped the slate clean on their reputation, and they can keep on doing the immature stunts they were already doing, with more keys to use the studio company-car, and fewer execs to say no.
There have been MANY "discovered" directors who once thought so...Anybody heard from Michael Lehmann lately, after "Heathers" got him that big-budget Bruce Willis gig?

I understand what you mean, and I do believe that, to some extent, it's happened to Gunn -- he's a great director, but has seemingly become too aware of that and almost flaunts it. I can't say that for certain because I don't know the guy, yet that's how he comes across through interviews and his YouTube channel comments, at least to me.

You should check out Slither and Super, though. They are brilliant films made by someone who clearly knows his genres.

Oh, right. Thank you for letting me know. He couldn't have used it to market the film then

he has a very sarcastic sense of humor, and most people get that and find him funny. Others try to take what he says too literally and get all offended or think he's conceited, when in fact he is not at all.

No, I get his humour - I think it's very funny and very well done - but I just have this niggling feeling that he has started to take himself too seriously. I'm probably wrong, though.

He'll do a mighty fine job with this, though, I'm sure.

Found this thing on his Facebook. I'm a follower on there, and saw this. I'm guessing this is the thing people were making a stink over before.

Quote:
A couple of years ago I wrote a blog that was meant to be satirical and funny. In rereading it over the past day I don't think it's funny. The attempted humor in the blog does not represent my actual feelings. However, I can see where statements were poorly worded and offensive to many. I'm sorry and regret making them
at all.

People who are familiar with me as evidenced by my Facebook page and other mediums know that I'm an outspoken proponent for the rights of the gay and lesbian community, women and anyone who feels disenfranchised, and it kills me that some other outsider like myself, despite his or her gender or sexuality, might feel hurt or attacked by something I said. We're all in the same camp, and I want to do my best to make this world a better place for all of us. I'm learning all the time. I promise to be more careful with my words in the future. And I will do my best to be funnier as well. Much love to all - James
Again don't know if he's talking about that thing people supposedly were upset about or another thing.

According to Variety, Zachary Levi and Jim Sturgess are front runners for Guardians Star-Lord character. And yes, it is that same Zachary Levi that is already in Thor: The Dark World as Fandral. There is also an un-named 3rd actor in the running as well.

Quote:
Just before Hollywood shuts down for the holidays, Marvel Studios has narrowed its shortlist of actors to star in James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy," with Zachary Levi and Jim Sturgess still in contention to play team leader Peter Quill.
Better known as Star-Lord, Quill is the son of a human mother and alien father. A charming troublemaker who serves as an interplanetary policeman, Quill leads a rag-tag group of superheroes (Drax the Destroyer, a raccoon named Rocket and a sword-wielding woman named Gamora) in an effort to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. The character isn't as well known as other Marvel superheroes such as Iron Man, Captain America or Thor, but Quill is still a plum role for thesps looking to boost their international profile.

Marvel reportedly made test deals with five potential leading men several weeks ago, though "Cloud Atlas" star Sturgess is the only one from that list to remain in contention. Levi was not featured on the initial group, though sources tell Variety that Marvel has a lot of faith in the "Chuck" star, who plays a supporting role in "Thor: The Dark World."

Levi stepped in to replace Joshua Dallas as Fandral, one of the Warriors Three, in the comicbook sequel, and Marvel is said to be impressed with his "Guardians" test and open to continuing their relationship. Marvel has had its eye on Levi for a while, as he had been in talks to play Fandral in the original "Thor" before NBC decided to order more episodes of "Chuck."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is among the more humorous properties in Marvel's stable, and Levi has proved his comedy chops over the course of five seasons as the star of NBC's "Chuck."

Sturgess has much more experience as a leading man on the bigscreen with starring turns in Robert Luketic's "21," Peter Weir's "The Way Back" and in Julie Taymor's "Across the Universe." He also showed off his range playing multiple characters in WB's "Cloud Atlas" and has also already led a team of guardians, having voiced the lead role in Zack Snyder's animated pic "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole."

While Levi and Sturgess remain frontrunners to play Star-Lord, sources caution that an unnamed third actor may be tested after the holidays. As for the other actors who reportedly inked test deals, none are hurting for work: Eddie Redmaybe is in negotiations to join Wachowski Starship's big-budget sci-fi pic "Jupiter Ascending," while Joel Edgerton recently signed on to play the villain opposite Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender in Lynne Ramsay's "Jane Got a Gun."

Should either Levi or Sturgess come away with the coveted role, CAA will have bragging rights, as it represents both actors.

Default Rumor: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is now a contender for Lead

According to deadline, Joseph Gordon-Levitt may now be up for the lead role.

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: The derby to land the lead role of Peter Quill in Guardians Of The Galaxy has gotten even more interesting. Marvel Studios has added Joseph Gordon-Levitt to the list of actors they are considering for what is seen as its next major franchise launch.

Deadline reported that Marvel had made test deals with Zero Dark Thirty‘s Joel Edgerton, Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston, Cloud Atlas‘ Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace (who has roles in both Lincoln and The Hobbit), and Eddie Redmayne from Les Miserables. More recently, Zachary Levi was identified as a candidate.

I’m not sure if Gordon-Levitt has been offered the role and nobody would comment, but he’s in the mix. He is just coming out of the superhero movie The Dark Knight Rises, which left him in an intriguing position as Chris Nolan’s film trilogy concluded.

James Gunn is directing the film, and Quill is the Guardians leader who is the offspring of a human mother and an alien father. Guardians Of The Galaxy first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1969 but didn’t get its own series until the 1990s. Quill leads a group of alien superheros who team to protect the solar system from an evil alien race. The good guys are from the future, and another dimension. In the comics, the Guardians worked with The Avengers, so there should be opportunities to use Marvel’s big franchises to help launch the new one. That gives Disney a deep space companion to its plans to resuscitate Star Wars.

There has also been mention of interest in Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden (he already played Cyclops in X-Men, but then again Chris Evans played Fantastic Four‘s Human Torch before landing Captain America), and Edgerton’s Animal Kingdom co-star Sullivan Stapleton.
