Received the Italian release 5 days ago and I've already seen it 7 times and I still can't get enough of Suspiria. Do I have to worry?

Yes to this! I'd happily put Inferno in my top forty (maybe even my top thirty) films. It's fantastic.

What my partner is worried about is , and this is true, this movie really relaxes me , the mood, the soundtrack, the colors, those beautifuly shot brutal murders....

I'm not a complete stranger to Goblin's work thanks to my love of Dawn of the Dead and the music for this one is still bouncing around in my head, that 5.1 mix is gloriously OTT. And yes, it's a hoot to see Udo Kier blatantly reading his lines off a cue card.

As for the Blu, the colours just pop off the screen, primaries in particular, and detail is excellent. I thought the blacks looked just a little bit undercooked here and there but what do I know? The titles (at both the testa e coda) looked far too clean and stable to be the original opticals, according to the tech card at the end they were recomposited for this restoration.
The nuttiest moment in the film is the stone eagle leaving it's perch to swoop down and fly past the blind man and his dog. Imo.

I can chill out to the Halloween score, nothing to worry about at all.

"Recomposited"? Not redone digitally?

i can't handle this sort of evenhanded, first-hand analysis.

Sorry, yes, I meant they've been recomp'ed digitally, probably by scanning the original title elements themselves (as was done with the subtitles on the Godfather restoration).

I just finished watching the Italian Blu-ray Disc last night on a display recently calibrated by Gregg Loewen of Lion AV, and I don't find Synapse's screenshots to be a good representation of the Italian transfer especially with respect to the green push and in particular screencaps 3, 4, 5 and 10.

With respect to screencaps 2 and 7 and green vs. blue, I don't know. The Italian seems too green and the Synapse too blue. Is there a better shot of this window anywhere else in the film? I feel like Synapse screencap 2 would be more representative but if screencap 7 is supposed to show the window in question I'm failing to see how it's a green and blue window.

Some dude in the Italian thread did just that as a counterbalance to all the GREEN hysteria. He essentially went for all the least green shots.

If I had the capability and knowledge to do it properly, I would. But I don't.

The Italian disc certainly destroys the UK Blu-ray by Nouveaux Pictures; so I'm happy with my purchase and won't make a decision on whether or not to buy the Synapse version until I've seen a Caps a Holic comparison.

Saltysam made multiple posts with screencaps. They're all behind spoilers. This is the post I mentioned. He did some other direct comparisons with a couple "yellower" scenes.

They're not 1920x1080, for sticklers out there. I think he was just trying to show the color.

if you click through each image a couple of times you should get the 1920x1080 caps (i think)

You know, I love Suspiria. For my money, there's no film quite like it in terms of cinematography and atmosphere. And while horror movies aren't often known for their plot, I must admit that I have been left perplexed by the witches motivations in the film every time I watch it. As best I can tell, it goes something like this:

Phase 1: Collect Ballerinas
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit

Italian horror films lacking any real logic is part of their charm and virtually de rigueur; The real strength of Suspiria is in its frequently intoxicating visuals and stylishness,, which I would consider unsurpassed to this day.

Suspiria is a visual and aural feast for the senses, and that's all it really needs to be.

All that being said, I'm still looking forward to that remake...
