Scope isn't personally my thing. I think ratios like 1.85:1 are perfect because you can do both vertical and horizontal compositions without much problems, like window violations (especially in 3D).

Then again, Bayona is going for a painterly look (which can be done well in narrower ratios like 1.33:1 and 1.66:1 as well) and he feels scope is better for this movie. From the shots we've seen, they're quite beautiful and has that epic look that he wants. I also like the way he uses lighting and colour and that is as important as framing choices. I'm very interested in seeing his vision unfold on the screen.

So, I'm going to watch it on a screen where it can be done justice, which is a local scope screen. Here, I don't have to be bothered by there being black bars and unused space in the screen. It won't fill my field of vision but it'll at least occupy the entire said screen.

The filmmakers were consciously making the movie different, from the very beginning - Taking the story away from the island, shooting with digital cameras, shooting in scope, all these show how it was designed to have a very unique look within the franchise; so that it stands out from the rest.

P.S: To other members, this wasn't a rant; just making some observations. Don't get your temperatures up against me, puleaseeeeeeee!

I wish we would complain about that after watching the movie - and only in case it's badly done. There have been epic movies with tall creatures were shot that way efficiently, such as King Kong and the LOTR trilogy.

At this point it's just assuming the director and cinematographer can't do their jobs right. The movie isn't out. Shooting in scope isn't bad. If it is bad, it's not because it's in scope. It's because the people didn't do their job in composing shots that took advantage of scopes wider shots.

That one is really sweet! Seeing the Triceratops makes me wish they used it a lot more in the series.

I'm not sure what that has to do with me saying the 3D presentation of it looked good. I don't necessarily disagree though. Bryce's "IT WAS ALL A LIE" makes me cringe each time I hear it.
