I already have the Directors Cut of II on Blu ray. The rest I still just have the SE DVDs. So I may just pick up III and IV individually. I can wait for the Directors Edition of Motion Picture.

Mentioned it earlier, but II-IV without VI seems incomplete to me (the other two are more stand alone), so I'll be tempted to track down an old Blu-ray if a new one isn't happening anytime soon. But from I hear I'm almost better off just sticking with the DVD.

Shame it looks like the text commentaries are not going to be on III and IV.
They were one of my favorite things about the SEs.

I think Disney is a bigger threat.
Don't get me started on Disney! Still, doesn't make it OK how Viacom/CBS have squeezed every last dime and more out of hard core Star Trek fans. They don't respect their customers. We can call out both Viacom/CBS AND Disney!

That's not a trilogy. There's no overlapping story whatsoever.

What does 4 being a comedy have to do with things? It's all related through 2-4, 4 being the final chapter of the story. When Spock dies in TWoK. The Search For Spock, they go to find bring Spock back and in the process, become criminals of the federation and end up on Vulcan. Film 4 is their VOYAGE HOME from Vulcan back to Earth so they can be prosecuted for their crimes in the previous film. Did you ever actually watch the film? It's directly related to Wrath of Khan and The Search For Spock.

Or is it trolling? I don't know, previous.

There no big Troll statement then when someone posts “Did you ever watch the film?’” Sheesh, grow up man, that’s not cool.

4 is only ‘very very loosely’ related to 2 and 3. Really, 2 and 3 exist on their own as a duology

Yep, 4 is very much the capper to the ‘Genesis Trilogy’

This is why 4 is part of the trilogy and why I recreated this using the blu ray footage. I saw this at the Cinema in the UK as a kid, this is how ST4 opens to me, explaining the story so far.

I bet they dont include it again on the 4k, I will have to mux it back on the front again.

It is incomplete for me at least without this.

The Voyage Home has very little connection to Part 2 and 3. Very tangential connections. You pretty much have to struggle to put them together.

Maybe, just maybe more time was needed for 5 and 6 because brand new director's editions will be done? Shatner apparently begged Paramount to do it for the fifth film several years ago and was turned down flat. A reworked Final Frontier could generate some more subscriptions for Paramount+. They're doing it for the first film so....

In IV they have to answer to their actions in III so there is a decent connection. Plus, they get a new vessel after they blew it up in III.

Saying 4 is loosely related to 3 is either trolling to utterly stupid. The overall theme, especially for Spock is related to his reincarnation of sorts that happened in the third film. Hell, it picks up near enough directly after the third movie and ends on a trial based on the actions of that film. How in the hell is that loose? It's directly related. Do people actually watch these films?!!

If that makes me immature and uncool, I'll care when it's worth caring about.

Edit: Just read this all to the wife and even she's scratching her head wondering how it's only "loosely" related. I won't repeat her words but lol.

Part 4 cannot be an end to a trilogy, it is a mathematical impossibility as it is the 4th film in the series, it is part 4, part 4 is 4, not 3.

While it is dickish for them to do it, I can't blame Paramount for taking advantage of a fanbase that not only enables it but actively criticizes other fans for not buying every release ever made.

For crying out loud.

The term “trilogy” being used on a box set of II-III-IV is just marketing-speak. Not meaningful or worth arguing over.

There are story threads that connect those three movies. We can all agree on that.

There are also story threads that connect II and VI. Whatever.

Now let’s talk about something more interesting, like Shatner’s toupee.

Wait, so it isn't a trilogy? We've been calling it one since we were kids. If it isn't a proper trilogy of films story wise, what is it? I'm totally puzzled here. It's clear all three films are one continuous story and it's VERY evident. Why are people suddenly looking to find the lamest excuse to say otherwise?

2,3 & 4 is defiantly a trilogy of films. Just like how Star Wars 4,5 & 6 is a trilogy of films.

That comparison isn't accurate as the two star wars trilogies are separated by many years with different actors.

The star trek films were made one after the other after the other with the same actors , Star Wars originally was a trilogy, and then 15 years later they made another trilogy. Totally different.
