That article mentions nothing about a physical release.
Later one of the Director's Edition team was asked if there was going to be a disc release and he said there absolutely would.
But 6-8 to complete the project and three to six months of Paramount + exclusive puts us in the second half of 2022 for a physical release.

So happy that the 4k restorations are finally happening, but funny that the news coincides with my first re-watch of all 10 movies in years!

The boxset of the first 4 is a curious one alright, especially when they've already announced that the directors cut of 1 will be coming out next year. But maybe Paramount are restoring them in batches and 1-4 are the only ones they've started tackling so far.....
Nice that they are being released individually as well though and have to commend them for going with the fantastic one-sheet art (classic posters for the older movies).

Quick question for anyone familiar with the existing blus: I had zero complaints audio-wise for the movies, until I got to Generations, where I noticed that the audio is significantly quieter for dialogue especially. This has followed through to First Contact and Insurrection as well (haven't rewatched Nemesis just yet). Did anyone ever notice that? The first 6 movies sounded fantastic though.

You're both quite right, and thanks for the correction. I ignored the outer box image, and was looking at the case art, which omits Sulu and Chekov.

This did go up to $126 then dropped to $109 now it's $90.99

Have no idea why Amazon changed the price 3 times today

Yep that sounds like a hardcore Star Trek fan to me and a lover of physical media.
Why would a fan buy only 2/3rds of the story?

Me, if they just released 1-6 (either by themselves or in a set), I'd be happy and call it a day.

For one thing, this is probably a test in the waters for whether they should even release the rest of the movies on physical 4k.
This happened with THE NEXT GENERATION Blu-Ray restorations. Very few bought them, hence why they never bothered with the other two remaining series (Deep Space Nine & Voyager) for Blu-Ray.

Paramount might find it feasible to restore all 10 movies for their streaming service, but if it's not feasible to release physical versions on 4k, then they won't do it.

Trek fans should know Paramount's game by this point, they have milked us for years on Trek stuff. The desire for a cohesive box set is understandable but if I have to have 3 seperate boxes in order to get all 10 movies on 4k disc, I'll take it.

The price will eventually go down to complete with the other retailers before the release date. It's still early and over a month away.

People still acting like they won't get 5 & 6 and their solution is to boycott this release.
Even if they were only releasing one movie of the 6 -- I would buy it. Because I like the movies.
People think they will release a 1-4 set and then the next set will be 1-6 with no separate release for 5 and 6? LOL.
It's obvious for whatever pricing reasons or remastering reasons they're going to release 5, 6 and probably 7 in a separate set. And I suppose we'll get the people who are furious that they're being forced to buy number 7 when they don't like number seven and they don't like the next Generation movies or crew.
"They didn't release the set the way I want them to therefore I won't buy any of it."

I'm a fan of Generations. It's not perfect but Malcolm McDowell, Kirk & Picard, some intense moments and some sexy SFX etc. Hoping the next release for V & VI includes Generations.

They really should have released all six Star Trek films in two sets, 1-3 and 4-6. But not a big deal, the other two should be released eventually

I don't think breaking up the so-called Trilogy was ever an option. Probably it would have been acceptable to release two through four and then released five through seven and then release the director's edition of the first movie as a solo. But at least they were honest and announced right now that the director's Edition will be coming next year. If they were being particularly sneaky they could have mentioned nothing about the director's Edition being created until well after the one through four set came out. Now the fans are at least forewarned that the first movie is getting a separate release and apparently some will choose to wait for that release and hope for single releases of the other movies.

That's a daft idea. 2-4 is a trilogy of movies. Why would you break up them up like that?

1-3 is a sci-fi Trilogy, 4 is a more of a comedy film

Plus, it makes for better sales marketing & cover art, you’d have The Wrath of Khan to sell the 1st set and The Voyage Home to sell the 2nd set

No... Just no. 2-4 make up the trilogy, not 1-3. The Motion Picture is the odd duck out.

Probably would have released I-VI if V and VI were actually ready to go. I'm just guessing but seems like a valid reason.

3-5 make up a trilogy too, the Search trilogy: The Search for Spock, The Search for George and Gracie, and The Search for God.
