Another take re: Space Jam 2...
The "it's an IP crossover so it's automatically bad!" criticisms are NOT. TRUE. CRITICISMS. OF THE MOVIE. Lebron acting? That's something that could be criticised, but the IP crossover stuff is clearly what 95% of film critics reviewing the film complained about so much so that it's become bland and stale. Look at the Critics Consensus. They say "oh it's an IP crossover film so it's automatically bad!" Or maybe oh i don't know, FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO CRITICISE ABOUT THE FILM.... And since when did the first movie have "Zany, meta humor"? |

Why are so many people obsessed with a movie's box-office take? If the movie's gross doesn't affect your bank account, you shouldn't care.
A lot of film fans seem to think how much money a movie makes justifies their opinion of said movie. It doesn't. It's kinda sad that these are unpopular opinions. |

Of course, there are a fair few of those sort of films that turned out to be decent, especially if they're watched correctly ![]() It's too bad that total tickets sold aren't also as easy to track. |

The second thing you mentioned in your post confuses the sh*t out of me, too. Honestly, who cares and why? That's ultimately what I'm saying. A movie I love or hate is the same movie regardless of how much money it made. I love a lot of flops, and dislike a bunch of hits. Some flops become cult favorites; some hits are quickly forgotten. I'm not going to change my mind because of a movie's success or failure, or because a lot of people over the years decided they love it or hate it. |

Dragon feels so pointless after Manhunter. |

Ralph Fiennes Dolarhyde is what gives Red Dragon the edge for me. Tom Noonan is great, but Fiennes really captured the character from the book.

Pulls up in van. “Ride with me?!?”. We quote that all the time in the same ridiculous accent. I love the guy and all but the understated nature of Noonan’s performance is the win for me. Didn’t like Red Dragon at all. With that cast, shoulda been a classic. |

It doesn't matter to me which is more faithful to the book. Red Dragon is a merely decent movie (I've never felt inclined to add it to my collection) and Manhunter is not. There are only a couple Michael Mann movies I like - and I love them both. Manhunter is definitely not one of those movies.

Its easier to take Manhunters macho 80's cop stylings less seriously I spose but I think its characters do have more nuance to them. Red Dragon feels more self serious but ultimately theres not much behind that, pretty standard hero/villain characters.
Fiennes played a mentally disturbed person far better the same year in Spider. |

I thoroughly enjoy the Kelvin Timeline Star Treks. Yes, they're more sci-fi action pictures, kind of a Star Trek by way of Star Wars, but they're still some damn fine entertainment. Beyond is the best of the three imo, it felt the most like "Star Trek".
Beyond>Star Trek>Into Darkness On a side note, I can't believe Paramount is letting waste away one of the rarest attempts at recasting, when it actually worked like gangbusters. Get the gang back! RIP Anton. |

Yep I wouldnt disagree with that jess, Beyond isnt really a Star Trek film for me but it probably does the best job of being an entertaining diversion.
