It's not for MP games it is chat groups in general, it's a pretty shitty move, like every phone call you make getting recorded and stored in a personal file with your name on it. Not really sure what legitimate interest they could justify for doing it or how it complies with GPDPR laws in EU.

They removed all the good stuff the PS3 could do with system software updates. Hell they are still releasing them, the last one was March this year lol Quote:

I take back some of what I said after they clarified. It's not Sony doing the recording, but the option will be there for the party leader to record it. So, in the end, a misunderstanding and not a big deal unless you're party chat leader is somebody you don't know (why would you be in that then?).

I don’t see the issue with the party chat stuff for myself. I only party up with real life friends. None of us are muting each other, going to record each other etc. we just party up to avoid game chat and having to listen to random losers in game chat.
I can see issues for people who party up with randoms though. That’s just something I’d never do. If I have to play with randoms I’m in a party by myself specifically so I can’t hear them. I’d rather never play a game again than game with randoms I have to communicate with. So I just stick with single player stuff, coop stuff with friends and MO stuff that doesn’t require communication. |

even when you're chatting with friends/family, you still need your privacy and a quick way to mute your mic |

It is weird, but the quick way to mute your mic remains muting your mic via button on headset rather than muting someone else so you can’t hear them.

You can mute yourself with headsets that have the option/button on them. Golds/Plats for example. Though doing so, everyone in the Party won’t hear you. Previously, You could select a user in the Party & mute them specifically. When doing this, you would no longer hear them, & they would no longer hear you. Now if you do the same thing. You won’t hear the user you muted but they will hear you unless that user also mutes you. |
