It might look fine in a cartoony Pixar/DW animated feature, not in a live-action franchise that is (was) renowned for its groundbreaking and realistic effects.

Maybe it'll look better when properly finished, on the big screen. Maybe not.

Colin Trevorrow says, "The original animatronic eye is the one in the film."

Dude, who cares? The original model being used as a base got an upgrade to it's texture and coloring...this is some huge issue because? We're sentimental over the animatronics of the 90's and wanted to see it again?

"Hey, Chris Pratt just jumped through a T-Rex's mouth!"
"Yeah, but it looked totally fake because the dinosaurs skin was changed and looked more cgi"
"Yeah, I can totally buy that the angelic specimen known as Pratt can tumble roll across a T-Rex's mouth but that color grading just took me right out of the film"
"Yeah, I'm rating this 2/10 for belivability now. Whoever changed the texture should be fired."
"Pratt still looked good tho"
"Agreed"

I am looking forward to having that conversation in the future.

My thoughts are always, this is the film makers vision. I can have my own vision with my own material.

If you think it looks good, good for you, but why fix something that wasn't broken? I guess we'll see when the films out. No point in arguing with you about it.

It's just funny that people get upset over a studios/directors choice to upgrade and alter their products. The entire scene was color-graded differently, they added a new rougher texture and people are acting like it's going to ruin the film that features a guy jumping through a dino's mouth.

Did I say it was going to ruin the film?

I was not even aware it was an animatronic to begin with.

I have not seen the edited tv spot. Can’t really tell if it’s worse from just pics. As long as it looks good I’m fine with them changing the look of the eye.

We should've been warned the moment J.A. Bayona said audiences today are more used to CGI than animatronics. It seems he may have already planned to use the animatronics as reference only. Otherwise why cover this beautiful puppet with CG when we've seen the shot so many times in the trailers?

Truly disappointed in them!
They should've left it as it was.

If Universal Studio execs are responsible for this, then they must revert to the practical shot that we've seen a lot in the various trailers and TV spots. They should listen to the fans if they are smart. Otherwise, they are meddling and ruining things like they did with The Thing remake. The Rexy animatronic does not need CGI replacement!
the CGI even looks awful

It's from this TV spot in question. It's about less than a second of footage. I won't really complain about it other than the fact that the eye doesn't match the yellow color the eye is supposed to be.

[Show spoiler]Unless this is some super spoiler where all the contained dinosaurs get injected with super intelligence or something and the eye changes, but I seriously doubt that's the case.

Right??!!

That's too clever for the writers, anyways.

I get that this franchise has been becoming increasingly goofy and about "rule of cool" with each sequel pretty much, and I'm totally on board with that for the most part as it's fun, but still... a T. rex roaring at the top of its lungs should be way too intimidating for any other reaction from a comparatively tiny, modern mammal which isn't used to seeing anything like that.

And with each new trailer, my worries for Blue's fate compound! The Indoraptor looks far too powerful for her to take down. It's also apparently bulletproof.
The dinosaur that I care the most in this series is Blue. The way Colin created her, and JA has nurtured her (trailers are enough evidence), it seems as if she is being set up as that well fed sacrificial lamb.
I've never been as emotionally invested with another animal in this franchise. I guess it's because I have a pet and know what it is like to lose someone who was basically like your child. I'll be devastated for sure.
