The price being high was to be expected since it's Struzan but the extra $100 for the gid variant seems a little high even though the edition is lower but it will be interesting to see how they did the gid layer. With two screenings of this then Mondo apparently selling to the general public after the ticket holders get theirs I don't see many of these being left for an online drop unless they set aside a certain number? Thanks for posting. I'm very tempted to get this. I really love this poster design, but only have 700 points left. I might have to think a bit on this one.
Also, just curious, but has anyone had any luck finding the advance "b" style of Dark Knight Rises? (The one with the Batman mask on the ground and Bane walking away.) No theaters in the area have this and I noticed that movieposter.com has one for over $100. I can't imagine that this poster is already worth that much money. ![]() I pulled the trigger on the 20x30 print. I just love it, and horror movies, too much not to. Expedited shipping was only $3 more, so I went with that. Total was $72, shipped. I'm officially insane. ![]() |

I figure the same as you on the struzan, small number of prints will hit online and even at the price will likely sell out in a minute if I were to bet. ET I think must of been similar as the sell out on that that was < 1 min as well. So either Justin is tweeting faster or they didn't have many ![]() |

I'd gladly throw a $500 or $600 bid on the silent auction if I didn't have 2 out of the 3 prints already. Low matching numbered variants signed by Stout... I bet you he gets a bid north of $900. Anyone want to play that game? We could do a closest to it without going over.

Also, as far as finding the advance "B" style for DKR, you can private message me if you want if you are looking for it, as I have had them in stock since they were released. That dealer you mentioned is rather high on their price, I will admit, but I think they must have sold out at one point because I remember it not being on their site, and perhaps they had gotten more in. Realistically the price should be around the $50-$75 price range but because true authentic originals are getting harder to find, don't be surprised if you see the demand shoot the poster up past the $100 price range sooner rather than later and eventually in the years to come it will probably only further appreciate in value as well. |

Just a major F.Y.I for everyone here, now that another Batman film is upon us, that means you will find a ton of knock-off material being sold, especially on eBay. It's one thing when something is clearly spelled out "reproduction" and is something that is officially licensed, but so much stuff is being sold on eBay for ridiculous amounts of cash for stuff that isn't even authentic, studio-issued, or even licensed officially. Every hot major release has tons of this garbage out there, being sold by people who could care less about collectors.
When an image is released online, websites are quick to call them "movie posters" when in fact they aren't, so what people do is take a high-resolution image of it and start having posters printed off in various sizes, calling them original. Sadly the sheer amount of people getting fooled into thinking they are getting the real deal is staggering, but then again, it's not surprising that there are those who with no conscience who continue to sell this stuff to unsuspecting fans. For the record the only authentic movie posters out there are the advance style "A", the advance style "B" and the final style. There are also four new bus shelter posters (three character styles featuring Batman, Catwoman, and Bane) and one featuring the same artwork as the final style. These bus shelter poster are double-sided, but printed on thick matte card stock paper and are only seen at various bus shelters in larger downtown cities. They measure 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall. There are no vinyl banners that I know of either released for the film by the studio either. Lastly the smartphone image icon on at the bottom of the final style movie poster (some of you know what I am referring to) is NOT an official movie poster. So far it is just an image on a site that a person using a smartphone can access but that it. There are people selling copies of it online, especially on eBay. What that image is (Catwoman's heel striking a bat symbol in the rain) COULD possibly be a midnight screening giveaway mini-poster or print, but at this time, it's nothing more than an image online, and could possibly remain that. Just don't think everything you see being offered is authentic studio-issued promotional items, because they aren't. Again, just an F.Y.I...... |

papi139 is auctioning off the A and B versions on eBay which I'll be buying if he's legit so does anyone here know of him? His name if Frank Utset. I've tried looking for any mentions of him on allposterforum or movieposterforum and through Google but there's nothing. Also a big thanks to this forum and especially Kinsella. I've learned alot from reading this thread. Are there any other forums apart from the above two that have good ongoing discussions on posters? I just started my collection early last month and they're sitting in the poster tubes they came in so I'm in need of a flat solution which is a bit hard being in Australia. Do posters stick together if they're just stacked on top of each other? If not then I'm thinking of buying this from a local place and laying it flat: "PICTURE CARTON Ideal for small and medium sized pictures, paintings, mirrors or table tops. LxWxH: 1040 x 75 x 775mm" = 40.9448 x 2.95275 x 30.51175 inches. ![]() |

My info is obtained by being in this industry for 20 years, studying the titles, their marketing/promotional items, and having good contacts as well. Trust me I dont know every aspect of every poster but I try my best to mainly focus on 1990-current-upcoming releases. The websites you mentioned are both very good sites that were started by serious poster collectors who share a passion for this hobby and wanted to help out others along the way by creating forums for other collectors to post, etc. Lots of very informative people on there, I don't have a bad thing to say about those sites or the people who post there. I am unsure of that seller you mentioned, while the Dark Knight Rises posters for example aren't "impossible" to get, they are rather difficult to get them in near-mint/mint condition, which I have outlined before in posts. Typically the ones that are shipped to theaters generally don't always arrive in near-mint/mint condition due to being poorly packed from the distribution hubs, etc. They can suffer bends in them or what is commonly referred to as "edge wear" from sliding around in the thin tubes. Not all posters arrive like that, but it seem often times they do. Generally those are the ones you see on eBay, people who work at a theater or know someone who does get them when their theaters do and they take an extra one or two to sell online. There are poster dealers who sell online too and generally their posters are in better condition than the ones you find from individuals obtaining them from the theaters. But remember eBay is also a big haven for reprints, and all kinds of unofficial garbage, and since eBay doesn't really have much in the way of regulation, often times this stuff gets sold on a daily basis and nothing is done about it. That's not just for posters either, there is plenty of knock-off stuff being sold on there. In the case of DVD's for example, it's staggering how many counterfeit Batman: The Animated Series boxed sets get sold on there, and eBay doesn't do a thing about it. But that's an entirely different story.... Other than accurately representing the posters a person sells, another big key factor is packaging. You can have the nicest cleanest poster in the world, but if you don't package it up properly, chances are it will get damaged in transit. Some people simply believe putting it a cheap flimsy tube, that the carrier will handle it with kid gloves as they say, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Some say I go overboard when it comes to packaging, but I like to error on the side of caution because if a person is going to purchase from me, the very least I can do is make sure it arrives in the same condition as when it left my hands. Unfortunately the knock-offs will continue until the issue gets more attention. While I have always stated I personally have no problems with people wanting reprints, or other dealers or individuals selling them, since some people don't want to "collect" movie posters, they just want them for the imagery, etc, my problem is with those who sell reprints that aren't licensed, those that basically pull an image from online and print up a poster themselves and then try to pass it off as an original or a legit reprint, when neither are the case. Welcome to the forum here too, lots of good people here who will help you out with questions you may have... |
