I can honestly say I've never heard a BD insider say WB are going Blu-ray exclusive, I have however noticed they appear 100% confident WB will support Blu-ray throughout 2008, whether that's exclusively or not.

Heh, at the very least this strong rumour will knock confidence in HD-DVD, I know if the story was with regards to WB going HD-DVD exclusive, it would knock the stuffing out of my enthusiasm to buy Blu-rays.

The line to laugh at these clowns starts over here behind me Doby.

Right there with ya man. We know the long sequence of events. There are about 9 or 10 significant developments since August to get us to this point...

This is the first one Penton-Man seems to be endorsing. Also someone at Mr. Burns level would not make a statment like that unless the negations were agreed upon.

You've always been the stalwart bedrock of informed pessimism around here, as far as I'm concerned. And I mean that in the most positive sense.
CES 2008 will be a milestone. I think we've all suspected that for a while and I think we can count on it.

What that entails? Really hard to say, but it's only a mere month away and a lot can happen between now and then, not the least of which will be strong, solid BD sales.

I think the reason the PDW deal hurt was due to the fact that Paramount was about to show why BD was superior before HD DVD paid them. We were about to see Paramount release BDs with lossless audio in addition to maxed out AVC encodes. I think when HD DVD shut down the possibilty of a Transformers BD release they did not want to do anymore than they had to do for the HD DVD. No lossless, but hey we got PiP. I think if you would have given HD DUDer's the choice between PiP and a less compressed video encode with lossless audio. Most would have said give me better video and audio.

Check out this exchange:

What a joke they are...and yeah he could be talking about his weekly hop-scotch game and Warner joining soon!

From AVS:

Well, to be nice I didn't post the second sentence in his quote. But if you insist:

"The rumor is that Warner is coming aboard soon," says Michael Burns, vice-chairman of studio Lionsgate (LGF), which makes its movies available on the Sony-backed format. "That will make it awfully tough for HD DVD to stay in this game."

FACT - Lionsgate will be releasing it's first 1.1 and 2.0 title - WAR.(1/1/08)

He could have been misquoted and meant that WB will start adding 1.1 and 2.0 features to BD movies. They have yet to do this.

That would mean "coming aboard soon."

This is where my pessimism was reborn and brought into overdrive.

Paramount was essentially pro Blu in the press for weeks and then all of a sudden, to us non insiders, bam! They took and bribe and did a 180.

We went from "Well on the way to ending this thing at Christmas 07" to an unknown and potentially indefinite delay.

Unacceptable.

Perhaps though, Christmas of 07 may yet be the beginning of the end after all?...

Correct.

Logic, facts, and about 9 months of sales figures were shitcanned in the face of a bribe. It's a lesson everyone should have taken to heart, especially people that constantly harp on the idea that "we" can win this format war for Blu.

No, "we" cannot. It takes forces higher up the ladder to make big moves and finish it.

yeah, warner adding the beloved PiP to their format is going to make it next to impossible for hd dvd to stay in the game. people are going to say, i don't want hd dvd that has pip, i want blu-ray that has pip, see how it makes no sense.

I think about how many HD DVDs I bought from Warner Bros. last year that I could have gotten on Blu-ray.

By WB going exclusive, HD DVD buyers save money which will then allow them to go out and purchase a Blu-ray player. Blu-ray exclusivity helps HD DVD consumers!!

BTW, I did my first HD DVD/Blu-ray double-dip this week with the WB BOGO deal. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"...

Oh I wish Penton could give us one more hint, just so we can all laugh at Amir, Rdjam, Lee Stewart, GizmoDVD, Michael HDDVD and all the other HD DVD zealots over @ AV$...

How I would like to see them go tumblin' down the hole

Wouldn't it be nice for them to actually BUY a Blu-Ray player and enjoy ALLL!!! films on the winning format

The PIP thing is indeed a factual irony that does help lend some credence to Warner at least not going HD-DVD exclusive, if nothing else.

The tech and the expandability/versatility of BD is ultimately going to be a draw to all studios, bribes or not.

i know people remember when uni popped out 50 titles, but i think its very odd the that in the first month of the new year, half the weeks, hd dvd has absolutley nothing being released. and the rest of the titles are very meh. it seems studios aren't putting much effort into hd dvd.

Welcome aboard, Alan!

What's ironic to me is that some HD-DVD supporters are the earliest of early adopters. They jumped in when HD-DVD was the only game in town. And, I think a lot like Alan will be big Blu supporters once Warner makes the call.

Or Uni and Paramount are waiting for CES because that's all they have to announce and it will be the only "good news". Wouldn't make sense to blow HD DVDs wad now and show up at CES08 with nothing.

yeah, but when titles get annoucned, min. they come out 3 weeks later. so what is hd dvd going to do for the month of jan. they are going to get whomped. i think both universal and paramount are waiting to see what happens before deciding just how committed they are to hd dvd.

Thanks, but I've been aboard since March when I bought my first Blu-ray titles (though I didn't get my player until May). When I get a couple of orders in, I will have over 100 Blu-ray titles (compared to my 30-40 HD DVDs).

Now who says that PS3 users have bad attachment rates?

if Universal and Warner jump ship even within the next 6 months...

that would mean Paramount/Dreamworks made out like bandits over MS by taking that money to support an already dead format...
