I mean, if it has more than one movie then yeah, its a franchise. There are 4 movies and a tv show. It doesn't mean its a great franchise. Plenty of films have one great film and then a ton of bad sequels, in fact I feel like that is what most franchises are.

I'd rather have a modern Exorcist movie. Russell Crowe is coming out with one in April called The Pope's Exorcist. I'd rather see a filmmaker or a studio try and come up with a brand new concept instead of digging up instead of Universal giving $400m to David Gordon Green and Jason Blum to dig up The Exorcist and start pumping out sequels.

But nostalgia always sells evidently. Studios know that instead of trying to spend money creating something new, they can just dig up something older that people have fond memories of (usually from when they are kids) and relaunch it and make easy money and I'm sure the new Exorcist film will do way better than the Russell Crowe film just because of the brand name "The Exorcist". I'm just as guilty of spending money because of nostalgia on anything else.

Haven't been reading a lot about this new Exorcist film (and the planned trilogy?) until this past week. Having read an article on the website for magazine Scream, it's got me interested. Likely will go and see it when it's released in cinemas.

Saw the original film at the cinema some time ago (a one-off screening), and more recently the two season TV series (which was very good. A shame it was cancelled). Caught some of the longer version of the original on TV late last year. Have yet to see any of the other films.

Would have loved a Blu-Ray of the tv series.

My recommendation would be to get and watch this beauty!

Sadly, I think the TV series is now with Disney. The first season I liked the most (probably because of
[Show spoiler]it's closeness to the original Exorcist film),
but the second season was pretty good as well.

Forgot to mention this in my previous post, but I haven't yet watched my copy of Arrow's Blu-ray release of The Exorcist III (prior to getting Arrow's release, I had watched some of the film on TV (didn't like much of what I saw, but I think I would appreciate the film more now. It seems to be getting better appreciated these days). I hope to still get a copy of Shout's Collector's Edition Blu-ray release of Exorcist II: The Heretic.

With the original celebrating it's 50th anniversary this year, I would assume it's going to get a 4K Blu-ray release.

Yeah, the director’s (or whatever it’s called) cut of the third film is interesting for sure. It’s a worthwhile film with some truly chilling moments.

Perfectly happy with my Blu-Ray of the original. Great extras too.

The tv show is a pretty great followup to the original movie. I wonder if Blumhouse even knows about it.

They do, just don't care. Same approach as their Halloween sequels.

Awesome! I hope Linda Blair is in it a substantial amount! I just love her. She is a horror icon in her own right. Please David Gordon Green, Universal Pictures and Morgan Creek, bring her back in a big way as Regan! She and Ellen Burstyn back together!!!

I wonder if Kitty Winn will return too?

Universal is giving it a theatrical release on October 13th, so it's pretty much guaranteed to be getting a physical release.

Also, according to IMDB the running time 121 mins.
