My mouth hit the floor when finally seeing the DC print and I’ve seen the FC prints. If anything the BR versions should be WACs first foray into 4k. |

I wish the editor stayed on the front angle for the entire Spider-Walk scene, but I understand the need for an establishing shot. Still, the brief (sped up) side angle does look bad.

For Blade Runner, 'The Final Cut' is actually my favorite cut (even with the revisionism), but I'd prefer to have the rest of the cuts, especially the 'International Theatrical Cut', which is my close second favorite. |

The Direction of camera-work is unparalleled alone in Cinematography. Stanley used all he learned finally from 2001, ACO, Barry Lyndon to get here! Then the script is so packed with mysterious nuance. There's an overflow of parallelisms, then the use of colors and patterns from red, white, blue, black, earthy. Numerous amounts of foreshadowing & subconscious creepy psychology. The Overlook being built on a Native American graveyard. The parallel between the USA ![]() Damn creepy movie! And it's all in there, and it all happened in World History, but we need to retrace our steps if we are to survive like Danny in the snow at the end. Just to cool. To well done for a movie. Probably the best overall. I don't know how you could make a movie about Mass Genocide, but here it is. ![]() ![]() I feel he / Stanley did finally change the way stories are told in this one, and I think this is his Ultimate movie. I think it changed the form of Cinema but no one can really put it all together as one man and movies are not made like this. I believe it took 2 years and 5 years of pre planning. I'd say it is his Ultimate movie at his top form. can't wait to own the 4K! |

I doubt they'd go back to the 65mm VFX elements again when working up the previous cuts. Scan the conformed 35mm negative in, grab the trims for the international and director's cuts, take it from there.

More Shining>less Shining
I'm always bummed when Nicholson's frozen face comes on the screen, more more more! |

Agree with all of the above but especially the bolded. The constant tedium does seem to be intended by SK in the American cut but the dread dissipates as the tedium builds for me as well. I had actually always considered The Shining more funny (in a black Kubrick way) than horrifying but that's changed since finding the Euro cut. It's pacing is relentless and it's harder to laugh when a film never lets you get comfortable.
--- Was inspired to give this yet another watch this weekend and observed two things I previously hadn't picked up: 1 Jack is reading a Playgirl magazine in the hotel lobby. WTF? 2 Jack twice orders a bourbon from Lloyd but both times is given a Tennessee whiskey instead with no complaint. I have a hard time imagining SK taking any drugs, alcohol included, and wonder if he knew the difference? And I do miss the the shot of Jack taking his first drink btw. It perfectly captures the feeling of getting your fix and also anticipates his expression at the end of the film. The 'spe*m bank' and 'women: can't live with 'em...' lines are good cuts however IMO. Not due to taking offense but rather because that's one of the exchanges that has me laughing during the American cut. The scene where Jack acknowledges that he abused his son has more impact with less humor IMO. [Show spoiler]
