I think there's some confusion with terminology. People might be confusing Demo Material with Reference Material.

The purpose of demo material is to highlight a product, so in this case, 4K, HDR and a wider colour gamut. With HD TVs they're usually set to Torch Mode™, a UHD demo would be along those lines. We then get a separation between what the public expects to see at home watching movies, a UHD Torch Mode™ and what they actually get. We get the same separation between Torch Mode, the preset used to sell a display and Movie Mode, people want their content searing their eyeballs for some reason.

Reference Material would be content done to a standard where you could hold it up against others to judge, whether it's compression, colour accuracy, dynamic range, gradation, whatever.

Reference material isn't always "demo worthy" for the Average Joe, but it usually is to us lot here. Demos can be fun, but I wouldn't want to sit through two hours of them.
To several people "demo material" means "reference material", that's the problem. They're not interested in a dark, grainy but wonderfully authentic transfer being a "reference" for how that content should look, all they care about is if it meets their notions of "reference" which is clearly gauged by some folks as to how much they can impress other people with it. To me that's about ass-backwards as it gets but then, as I've said, those people have always been there ever since there was a 'better format' than the one they were currently using. For if you can't show it off to people to prove you haven't bought a lemon then what's the point, amirite?

As some people have been fond of saying whenever a new transfer of a catalogue movie gets compared to a BD: it's easier for these things to look like a hell of an upgrade when they're being compared to a particularly grotty old BD, 'specially those from Universal and Paramount back in the day.

But when we're dealing with such modern content that's already been given good-to-great treatment on video - as direct DI data migrations usually are - then it's harder to make a new version stand out, which for me is one of the main reasons why studios are swerving 4K rebuilds in the first place (a few Sony joints and Fox's The Martian aside) because spatial resolution alone just won't cut it. These first two CraigBonds could've been rebuilt in 4K, yes, but how much of an improvement would that have been for such recent films?

Hellboy is an example, the new 4K rebuild is rather good but then so was the original Sony Blu-ray created from the original 2K master (which itself was scanned at 4K). The new one's main benefits are in the rendition of grain and improved spatial details which are so small that - to borrow a certain point of view from one of our resident 4K sceptics - you've gotta scrutinise it up close to able to discern, which then just leaves That Darned HDR™ as the potentially biggest point of difference anyway - which several people consider to be snake oil as it is or simply don't have the gear to appreciate it, so we're back to square one.

Well, clearly we all see these things somewhat differently, as I would never agree to that analogy and that HB's new grade only has HDR going for it. Thankfully I didn't have to squint at all to see plain as 'night' differences there, and which is why I sent my 20$ within without further ado

It's one of my demo discs.
Some people are forgetting that Casino had a selective DNR pass in the original DI

Not a massive upgrade here. I do appreciate the better compression, more dynamic range and the yellows being dialed back a little. Though I understand for anyone new to the format this may all be subtle at best. Sampled the other ones and they look pretty good IMO.

Watched the Blu-ray of this last night (haven't picked up the 4K set), and it seems I've made the mistake of learning about poker since the last time I watched it. Good lord are those scenes bad.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
Richard Branson, billionaire founder of Virgin Atlantic airlines, had a cameo in the remake of CASINO ROYALE. When the production needed an airliner at the last minute, Branson provided one. In return, Branson asked director Martin Campbell for a cameo. Producer Barbara Broccoli said, "He was very supportive of us and he helped us out when we needed a plane in Prague. He said, 'Can I just do a little cameo' and Martin said, 'Come to the airport and we'll stick you in the little security thing and you can set the bells off.' He had a lot of fun and he was a trooper and it was a long night. He and his son were in the scene and they were great."

I spotted that on first watch of Casino Royale back in the day.

The Daniel Craig 4K set was au$32.50 (which is roughly $22 U.S.) on Amazon.au last week for BF... When they are released here in Australia individual next year, they will likely be au$15.98 each... for the price of two individually, we were able to pick up all four.

Nothing to be sorry for. Not everyone is looking at the steelbook forum. Your post was the first I heard of them.
