The extended version is 177 minutes and the theatrical 137. Add them together and you get 314 minutes. Is it possible they are putting both on two discs or one disc with seamless branching?

I didn't do the entry and the 309 was copied from the amazon page. Must be summing + some PAL timing variation, which happens sometimes.

I hope the theatrical cut is the exact same transfer as the US version because it is nearly flawless. The scenes in the extended cut would look fantastic if they use the same master that was used for the 2006 DVD release, which also served as the master for the theatrical cut on HD DVD and BD in the US.

Yeah would be sad if they use the old german transfer that is inferior to US/french. They sure love their Dune, isn't this like blu-ray nr 4 or 5 for them?

Yes, if you enjoy sci-fi that really works your brain. Read the book as well if you get a chance because it's even better than the film. Also, Tolkein thought very highly of Herbert and regarded him as a genius of sci-fi. Some of his other books are excellently crafted in case you were curious.

blu ray is 1080P24 FPS,at that counts for about 99% worldwide...you can have 1080i...but its got nothing to do with either the pal system or ...whatever.

US version wins hands down. Have a look:

It really isn't too much to like either version of Dune (or any other re-cut made by other directors, just to see the differences. Why are some of the purists so bent our of shape. Although the Alan Smithe moniker is understood to be not acceptable to the Director, shouldn't we be given the choice to see what the differences are. Come on you stuffed shirts! get on the bandwagon. Movies are a great past time!

I like watching the extended cut from time to time. I got it on DVD bck in 2004 or 2005? Was a steelbook release which in fact my only steelbook as I usually don't bother getting steelbooks since for me they are a waste of time and money. I could not fine it any other way than a steelbook so I got that

Yep, it's the only DVD steelbook I own as a matter of fact as it is the only way to get the extended cut in Region 1. I just wish Universal would quit sitting on the extended cut and get it on BD. I'd even buy a region B release if it was region free.

Actually I have not seen it. I've found here lately there have been quite a few films I've missed for one reason or another. Its close to the top of my to-watch list so I'll probably see it in the next few days.
