I got the Essentials collection and the individual releases of Rope, Shadow of a Doubt, Frenzy, Marnie and The Trouble with Harry. Going back and forth on getting the rest. I have The Man Who Knew Too Much original from the Criterion boxset but haven’t seen the remake, I didn’t care for Topaz, Saboteur or Torn Curtain when I first saw them but it’s been awhile. I like Family Plot but I’ve heard the blu-ray is an atrocity.

Snagged one. Cheap enough that I don't mind the fact that I have some of these already.

You can order it from Amazon UK for about $30 shipped. It’s region free. The only difference between the US set is that the UK set doesn’t contain North by Northwest.

I considered ordering this set when it was on sale, but the poor transfers of a lot of the newer Hitchcock films makes me hesitate buying this. I think I'll just wait for UHD versions of these to come, eventually.

Eventually could be a long, long time ... if ever.

Buy the import set for $30, that way you're not out much IF better versions ever come along.

Why are the UK sets always so much cheaper compared to the US version?

Thanks for the tip. My copy just arrived today, but it does boggle my mind that I just got 14 Hitchcock films for a little over two dollars a piece.

Aren't there audio differences between the different region releases or something as well?

Uk has mono in lossless for psycho and us has mono for vertigo which uk and oz don't have. I think the credits for frenzy are screwed up in the uk too

I think some of the UK discs omitted the original mono tracks?

What's the issue with the credits for Frenzy?

EDIT: Just did some digging seems the issue was corrected before the boxsets were released, will check mine later

Not just the UK, but all non-US/Canadian discs of Vertigo miss the original mono track. We got the better lossless Psycho original track instead, so swings and roundabouts.

Be nice if there were one release that had the best of everything though, even if it meant importing.

Is a Vertigo-only release that has the original mono available?

Does anyone have Saboteur to hand? I have the Region B version.

On my Sony TV and blu ray player combo I have the following issue.

The picture goes haywire during the credits. The credits are almost impossible to read. Once the film gets going, the picture is great.

Is it the disc or my player/TV combo?

Thanks

Haywire how? There's a vertical striped pattern in the background that might affect legibility depending on your viewing conditions, but it looks fine to me.

I have the region free UK release of Saboteur in the UK Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection. I just checked it on MY Sony player and LG TV and the credits are fine. I notice that the credit sequence is rather soft..... vertical lines that represent a wall with rather light printing over it. At just about 3:30 into the title is a shot of the same wall with the black smoke drifting in from off screen. It looks ok as well.
Perhaps your combo is not comfortable with the credit sequence because of the light printing and vertical lines. I don't know.
But it seems okay to me.
Good luck. Hope you figure it out.

Thanks. This gives me the impetus to watch the excellent film that I haven't seen in awhile.
