Thor, I'd say was roughly 85% what I hoped for. But I had much higher expectations, so it's also impressive that it lived up as much as it did.

The story was perfect for what the film wanted and needed to accomplish. It wasn't anything you wouldn't see coming if you were a comics fan and it wasn't anything too difficult to follow if you weren't.

I only had one major issue with the film, but that major issue encompasses the smaller ones. It was too blasted short. It needs another 15-20 minutes for me to be completely satisfied. I didn't find the Thor/Jane relationship hard to buy like some, but I wanted to see it build up more (which is saying a lot for me) and more of Jane period. I wanted to see more time of Loki
[Show spoiler]on the throne and his scheming.
I want more time with Sif and the Warriors Three. I want the
[Show spoiler]fight with the Frost Giants in the beginning
to be a tad longer...and filmed/edited better. I wanted
[Show spoiler]an actual fight against The Destroyer...not Thor kicking it's *** in 20 seconds.

Like I said, I need 15 or 20 minutes more to fully satisfy what I wanted out of this movie. Some of that can be covered with sequels I suppose, but it would have been better to be included here. Feige said nothing was cut that they wanted to have in the movie, well that's a shame because it's not long enough as is.

That said, what we DID get, I highly enjoyed. The action was fun (though like I said, the fight against the Frost Giants was not shot/edited that well) and entertaining.
The humor was nearly perfect. Take away Darcy and then it was. The only thing I liked out of her was when she tasered Thor and surprisingly the Facebook part...but that one was only because of Thor's reaction.
Hemsworth really sold the humor of Thor being a stranger to Earth; I was almost rolling at a few parts.
[Show spoiler]I need a horse!!

The humor also manages to not be a hindrance to the more serious portions of the film. When the film knows it needs to be serious it is quite dramatic; Loki and Thor's
[Show spoiler]conversation in the SHIELD facility
is definitely the most 'powerful' part of the film. Branagh and crew managed to achieve a nice balance with it.

Having a little more time with Thor learning and growing as a person was probably a concern of some people, but for me it worked because
[Show spoiler]his change was after he was told by Loki about his father's death being a direct result of his actions. That was enough to shake him to his core and begin his change.
It worked perfectly for me.

Hemsworth was fantastic as Thor. Marvel absolutely nailed it with the casting, no one else could have done this role as well as Hemsworth as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait to see him in The Avengers and hopefully two more Thor films. I've been reading people saying he was as good as RDJ's Stark...that's pushing it. He is easily the second best character/actor in the MCU right now, but he's not quite on par with RDJ.

Hiddleston was second best in the film as Loki. He captured that scheming, mischievous persona very well. I loved his chemistry with Hemsworth in the brief amount of time they share the screen. They work very well together.

Anthony Hopkins was Odin. There's nothing more to say.

Though she really didn't have all that much to do, Natalie Portman is easily the best of the love interests from the three heroes we've met so far...of course that doesn't take much
I would have liked for her to have a more meaty role to sink her teeth into, but what we got was okay. Hopefully she is given more to do in the potential sequel.

There was some complaining when Idris Elba was cast as Heimdall; as far as I'm concerned he proved that they made the correct choice. He actually had one of the best parts of humor in the film when he said something like,
[Show spoiler]"You mean to defy your king and break every vow you have taken?. "Yes" "Good."
I don't feel he needed more screen time, he was there just enough.

Sif and the Warriors Three were also all pretty good for what they had to work with. I look forward to seeing a (hopefully) expanded role for them in the potential sequel.

Colm Feore's role was rather small but I thought he was a very good counter for Hopkins in the film.

And with that, I think I covered everything I wanted to mention...though I may have left something out.

Even with the disappointments I had, I did love the movie. Maybe I had my hopes set too high, I don't know.

I'm not going to make the call of whether or not is my #1 Marvel Studios film yet. I need to see it at least once more, maybe twice. It is more likely than not going to be at #1 though. I would if it was announced we would see an extended cut on blu-ray
Though we do know we'll be getting deleted scenes, so hopefully some of the stuff I wanted is in there and I can pretend it is part of the movie

Rating - 4.5/5

Marvel Studios isn't perfect, but they are definitely consistent with me:

Iron Man - 4.5/5
Incredible Hulk - 4.5/5
Iron Man 2 - 4.5/5
Thor - 4.5/5

Let's keep that streak alive Captain America
Good review Diesel. You touched on a lot of the same things I did.

I'm also looking forward to Capt. America & to a somewhat smaller extent, The Green Lantern.
Yeah, I definitely gave it a 4.5 as well, Aero. Diesel shares a lot of the same views on the movie as I did.

As for my ranking of the movies:
Thor 4.5/5
Iron Man 4.5/5
The Incredible Hulk 4.5
Iron Man 2 4.5/5

They're all just great. It's hard to rank theme really, I think they're all really well done and have great aspects of the Marvel universe. I love what Marvel is doing with their characters so far.

I had the same problem with my theater- it wasnt till thursday that they announced 2D showings. I love IMAX and the screen size and clarity and deafening sound. I HATE that most of the movies I would se ein IMAX are also 3D IMAX and they dont alternate showings. You are stuck with it.

That being said, I did not like the 3D. It was done ok, but really didnt add anything. Not the worst converted film i have seen. I didnt like that the glasses shrink the screen to make it extend out to the audience. And in alot of scenes, especially panoramic ones, it looked like almost figurines stuck in a tremendous set-piece.

As far as the movie, I am not sure yet. It was good, I dont think great. And since it ended different then I thought, it was sorta sudden for me.
I am sure I will find it in here, but what was the hidden clip about?
Is that doctor someone I dont know or becomes someone important?
And the energy source must be part of another storyline?

I wish it would have been another hint to another character or maybe even shown bruce banner or ant man or anything else.

For some reason i thought the hulk and betty scene happened in VA and the Mjolinar part was in NM. So if that is accurate, then while its possible, its highly unlikely that a rain storm spanned that far across the country and could connect those 2 timelines.

Also, I didn't realize that Ray Stevenson was in this as Volstagg. He was The Punisher in Punisher: War Zone.

Also; "He drank, he fought, he made his ancestors proud!"

The rain storm in TIH can not be happening at the same time as the one in Thor. In the scene right before it, Erik Selvig tells Jane and Darcy that
[Show spoiler]he knew a brilliant scientist, the leader in Gamma Radiation. And then one day, S.H.I.E.L.D. showed up, and he disappeared. No one had heard from him since.
So the movie takes place after the events in The Incredible Hulk.

[Show spoiler]When Banner is on the run for those five years, in the opening credits we see SHIELD data, Stark tech, e-mails, etc. SHIELD was looking for him before the film as well. Ross even mentions in the film that they use the SHIELD database for assistance.

Iron Man 2 ends around the time of the campus fight in Incredible Hulk. Agent Coulson heads to New Mexico to deal with the Thor situation in the middle of Iron Man 2.

They are all happening at the same time.

Yeah, but S.H.I.E.L.D. has been around longer than the heroes, same with Stark Tech.
[Show spoiler]That one line in Thor makes that part take place after TIH because Banner has been captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., which was alluded to at the end of the movie when Stark talks to Ross.

That's my point...they've been hunting Banner for years, so the line in Thor does not correlate with the end of TIH. Banner hasn't been captured, that's why Stark went to Ross for potential help finding him (likely through Betty); if SHIELD had him, Stark would not have needed to go and see Ross to inform him of the team.

I refer you to my text I added right after you quoted me

And the map in the SHIELD facility that showed Banner still in New York before he fled to Canada.

The latest thing we have seen chronologically speaking in-universe is Banner in his cabin as it is a full month after TIH.

Seeing as how Thor is receiving high ratings from a fair amount of people on this forum makes me want to check this out.

Just out of curiosity, how would those of you whom have seen the movie rate the following, based on a 1-5 to scale:

1) Acting
2) Dialogue/Script
3) Cinematography
4) Soundtrack

I think that I'll try and catch this on Tuesday.

I saw this today about the two thirds of the movie was great but the last portion of the film was lacking IMO. Like Iron Man 1, the ending felt somewhat lacking. The casting was great and the story line was very good as well. I've never been a Thor fan (and never really was with Iron Man either) but as far as the characters powers go I just couldn't get into it. His powers just seemed a bit hokey to me and I expected a bit more with the fight between Thor and the big furnace garbage can dude. I'm also having a hard time seeing Thor fit in with the Avengers with Iron Man and such. I gave it a 4/5.

This movie does have the best cameo with Stan Lee!

My ranking of the Superhero moviesis something like this:

Spiderman 2
Spiderman
Iron Man
Superman 2
X-Men 2
Iron Man 2
THOR
The Incredible Hulk
Spiderman 3
Batman Begins
Batman The Dark Knight
Superman the Movie
X-Men 3
X-Men
Superman Returns
The Hulk
Fantastic Four 2
Fantastic Four

I won't be watching it again. Ever. But I am looking forward to Iron Man 3.

I refer you to my text I added right after you quoted me

And the map in the SHIELD facility that showed Banner still in New York before he fled to Canada.

The latest thing we have seen chronologically speaking in-universe is Banner in his cabin as it is a full month after TIH.
[Show spoiler]I guess that works. For me, I guess I was just assuming that they had him. I don't think we're going to see S.H.I.E.L.D. ever capture Banner, I think it will have happened off screen before The Avengers. So that's what I thought the line was referring to.

Just out of curiosity, how would those of you whom have seen the movie rate the following, based on a 1-5 to scale:

1) Acting
2) Dialogue/Script
3) Cinematography
4) Soundtrack

I think that I'll try and catch this on Tuesday.
The acting was outstanding from Chris Hemsworth,Anthony Hopkins, and Tom hiddleston.I loved them when they were all on screen together.the rest of the cast was meh.The dialogue and script was great you never get lost in the movie and always know what's happening. The setting in Asgard was great looked real and fantastic wish the whole movie was set there. The soundtrack was horrible when thor fights the destroyer they put the wrong music .wish they would have put a more of a badass fight scene music .what they put just didn't fit with me .overall go see it you will not be disappointed.
