It could hold better than most since some people like myself didn't see it because of the crowds and then there is the whole Florida hurricane

Saw it again last night. Some thoughts:
Initially I thought Stan's fear and Richie's fear were "thrown" in, but I think I can make some sense of them now. Stan is very order-oriented, a non-believer and views things objectively speaking. We first see him straighten the painting of the flautist. Art is totally subjective, so thinking of it that way works for me. As for Richie, it seems like the clowns were a cop out (and it might be) but I think it works for his class clown personality. Clowns are supposed to be fun, but they are mostly unfunny and unliked, and feared. You can also consider the "sad clown" idea, how Richie's humor masks his insecurities. To think Richie's fear is to be rejected as unfunny, or to never be taken seriously, works for me too. |

Saw this Friday, I was shocked that the showings were sold out, had to make due with a late night showing and even then only seating in the front row was available!
It was a Horror Comedy, and not in the way youd expect when you hear Horror Comedy lol I liked the movie but was surprised so many people were genuinely horrified (so many screams) chapter 2 should be good! 4/5 (as for the comments about the size of the drains, if you go to Hawaii or some other parts of the world, where they get torrential downpours, you'll notice giant drainage holes too) |

Patrick's death was described in the book. He loses consciousness, after the leeches suck enough blood, It (in some monstrous form) drags him into the sewers. He regains consciousness, as It starts to eat him alive. Patrick's death in the movie is LAME. |

That's a great choice. I'd love to see him as Bill! Adam Scott for Eddie would be a good pick too. I agree with Finn Wolfhards pick of Bill Hader for Richie. I think it's all but confirmed that Chastain will play Bev too.
So that leaves Ben and Mike. The actor for Ben suggested Chris Pratt, and that's frankly perfect, but highly unlikely. They have a lot of range for Ben, since he's supposed to look radically different from when he was a kid. Mike I'm having a harder time with. I was thinking Chadwick Boseman, but I'm honestly not sure if hes old enough. Any suggestions? God damn that kid is a natural. That creeped me the hell out still. Just got back from seeing It. It is definitely one of the finest horror films of recent years and, to me, stands tall as the absolute best King horror adaptation yet. The story has been streamlined and many little subplots and cul-de-sacs from the epic tome have been left behind, but it is to the benefit of providing a rollicking show of disturbing terror that barely ever relents. Seriously, It starts off hard (poor Georgie's fate in this film is truly frightening in its implications) and from there on just continues to ratchet up the dread and terror. This film is rated R. A pretty tough R at that. No the gore may not be as much as some might like, but that to me is also a benefit because it shows the filmmakers had other things on their minds than how much blood they could throw across the screen. The kids are all outstanding in their roles, with Sophia Lillis' Beverly and Jack Dylan Grazer's Eddie especially standing out, even if some are not given a whole lot of time. Jaeden Lieberher is the lead and he does own it. His scenes with Georgie in the opening are the definition of endearing. It makes what transpires shortly after all the more horrifying and sad. And as for Skarsgard's Pennywise. I liked him. I loved him even. He did not try to copy Tim Curry and made the dancing evil clown his very own. I really bought Pennywise as a threat in here. His attacks had so much more weight to me. It is a cult classic in the making and I cannot wait to see what they do with the adult portion of the story. As Grace Randolph so succinctly stated, and I do agree with her here, whomever is cast has their work cut out for them to match, let alone top, what these kids have done. Let's get it going Warner. Now where is The Stand?

I've spoken to friends and collegues who also have fond memories of the miniseries and they found the movie much too popcorn/mainstream, not dark enough nor unsettling and weren't impressed with Pennywise. I did find the Pennywise performance great in a different way and liked the character moments throughout. Oddly enough, the sequence I found most unsettling was the Stan fear and that appears to have been pulled from the director's own childhood memories instead of the book. I thought it was a great addition. I'll watch IT again this weekend, definitely worth multiple theatre viewings! |
