The Thing is probably one of the comic book characters that's best to keep judegment reserved until we actually see it in motion.
If you look at all the three 3D renderings of The Thing in the past films, they all look bad. Corman's looks like poop (to me), 2005 & 2007 looks like plastic and this one looks like clay. I just think he's a character that looks much better in motion. |

After seeing that 'action' pic... he looks like a video game character.
I don't like the design. Too dark -- he's more brown, instead of bright orange. Nose is all wrong. Brow is M.I.A. His character and personality are what's most important, but the design they went with just doesn't work for me. |

It really depends on how effective the comic fanboys are in spreading bad word of mouth. They're working overtime, so they might kill it. Which would be a shame if it ends up being a great sci-fi movie.

Yeah, seems like they are. Sometimes I feel like FOX thinks they can just forget the fanboys and put their faith on "new" comers to just want to see another superhero movie. I remember watching the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy and hearing someone say "oh a talking racoon, this looks weird, but it's Marvel so I'll give it a try" ..I find it hard to believe there are people out there who are not up to speed with comics, but they exist and those are the people big studios seem to want to target.

No amount of "comic fanboys" could be solely responsible for the success or failure of a film. Comics are a niche market and people expressing their feelings online won't sink a movie.

You know, sometimes fanboys have spent so much of their lives reading and collecting comic books and appreciating the artwork that they feel movie adaptations just aren't good enough. If this movie underperforms, maybe the fanboys were right and Trank and Fox should've made a F4 movie closer to the standard source. If it's a decent movie in its own right, I'll be impressed, but I still think Marvel would've done a better job. That's not even an opinion anymore. At this point, it's a fact. |

This is one of those movies where it's being dumped on all over the internet and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Now, I haven't studied the production of the film or anything, but I thought the teaser trailer was intriguing and I liked the photo I saw of the Thing.
It might not ending up being a good movie, who knows? But I can't imagine it won't be better than the other two FF movies from the mid 2000's. Those were godawful. |
