Default Sticky Residue and new Lionsgate releases

I was just wondering if anyone had purchased any recent releases from Lionsgate and had a problem with their security stickers leaving residue on the case. I just wonder because i'm about to order some replacement cases and i'm going to be buying War and 3:10 to Yuma when they come out, and I would like to get cases for them now if i'm going to need them.

You can remove the sticky residue with Goo Gone. I find it a bit annoying to pay a high price for a Blu-ray DVD and have to take 10 minutes to clean the case up, but that seems to be the state-of-the-art. They should give us an extra $5 off for our cleaning labor.

Before you go and buy replacement cases try this: If you have any unsealed movies or the next time you buy a new movie take the security seals and use the sticky side to dab at the residue area. Press the sticker on the residue with a bit of force and peel off quickly. Repeat this a couple of times and all of the residue will come off. I've done this with every single one of my movies and it has never ever failed. You will notice that the sticker will start to get dirty and tacky with all the residue it has picked up.

Sorry about taking this thread somewhat OT, but I didn't feel my post was worth a whole new thread, and since it covers a topic somewhat similar to yours, I figured I'd post it here.

Does anybody else have any problems with Warner titles always being beat up? Usually my Amazon orders arrive in perfect condition, but not the recent Warner BDs I've purchased, and I usually have to really dig at BB to find a good copy of a movie. Even then, when I take the plastic off there's usually hidden scratches on the spine or beneath the security sticker where I couldn't see them before. It's really frustrating.

The worst, so far, have been HP 3 and 4. I ordered both these from Amazon. The clear plastic sleave on HP: GoF actually looked as if it had been melted somewhat, as it was all wavy and stretched, and PoA had part of the spine torn. Both had scratches all over the top around where the security sticker was on the actual blue case.

All my Warner titles so far - 300, Harry Potter 3-5 - have come damaged in some way. The other 10 or so titles I've picked up form Disney, Fox, and Sony were in perfect condition. I'm going to pick up HP 1/2 tomorrow with some gift cards I got for Christmas, and I really hope I can find some that aren't all beat up. Has anybody else had any serious problems with Warner titles (besides the BD HP boxset and Blade Runner Coll. Edit. gaffs)?

I do this as well. I figured it out on a CD a few months ago, and it works damn near perfectly.

I find the square security stickers that are on the inside of the case opposite the Blu-ray to be the most troublesome. They not only leave residue but part of the silver sticky stuff as well.

As for Warner, I have received several damaged discs form Amazon, all Warner, all having broken hubs or loose discs.

Yep, just got Crank recently and the sticky stuff is awful. I tried lifting it with the security labels after I'd peeled them off but it didn't help at all.

I use WD-40 and then wipe them down with windex to remove the oily res. left behind. Has worked great so far.

Yea those are the annoying ones for me too. Sometimes it just doesnt want to come off, and sometimes I can almost peel the whole thing off in one slow peel. Usually there is always some left so I have to pull it in the circular rotation, since the sticker is basically just one long strand of sticker curled up like a snake. But sometimes that snake just doesnt want to leave its sweet home that is the Blu-ray case.

It's not just Warner. I had ordered Planet Earth from AMAZON, and the first one came with discs loose and SCRATCHED (thought that was impossible lol...). My replacement wasn't perfect (the swinging part holding discs 2 and 3 was broken) but the discs worked just fine, so I said screw it.

I think the majority of Amazon/Planet Earth purchasers had this problem. I know some of the discs were loose inside of the cheap/flimsy Warner blu-ray case of Planet Earth. Luckily there were no problems, but the case just sucks and the discs are always falling off of the spindles.

YES!! i hate those residue. Columbia Picture and Sony INTEND to have three security stickers on top, side and bottom. Why do they put three instead of one on the top? Does that means, people are stealing the discs without the cases? On the top, it will peel easier.. well sometime the top sticker will peel little of Blu ray logo on the top.. I peel mine very slowly

You should only be finding 3 security stickers on older Sony releases. Thanks to Paidgeek, they are now only placing the single sticker on the top of the case. Paid got them to do this because of all the complaints from people here

Default Evolution of "Security" stickers on BD cases

Have you guys noticed the evolution of the security stickers on the BD cases? I know there have been countless of threads on the annoyances of these security stickers -- but it really seems the various studios have been stepping up and making lots of changes. Especially since the first Blu Rays.

I still get the occasional problem case, but overall I have noticed the following:

a) most BD cases now only come with 1 security sticker (this vs the older titles coming with 3 stickers)

b) with the cases coming with 1 security sticker (see a), the sticker is placed at the top of the case on the hard plastic area and not anywhere on the soft plastic sleeve holding the art work in place. (stickers on the soft plastic seem to leave sticky residue behind)

c) On cases with a security sticker at the top of the case - the sticker now has a cut-out so it no longers covers the silver "Blu Ray" logo. (previous stickers covering this logo would pull off the silver paint)

d) And overall the stickers seem to come off much more easily nowadays.

I truely applaud the studios for listening to us and making these changes. If it was up to me they wouldn't have any security stickers at all (since they are sealed in plastic anyway), but I can understand and definitely appreciate the positive changes.
