I have a cheapo Sylvania NB530SLX. No new firmware has been released for it since I bought it about 4 months ago. Anyone tried Avatar on this machine?

Believe me it's great so focus on the story ,you will be more than happy,if this BD is not very important in both ways technical and feature, will never recommended as a blind buy.this AVATAR BD deserves it.It will be a Demo Material till the end of this year.

Today the Best Buy cashiers were all told to tell the customers buying Avatar on blu-ray to update their BD players in order to view the movie. That's a first for me! (Sorry if this was already discussed earlier in the thread).

Anyway, that surprised me a bit.

That's because they want to scare people to buy into their Geek Squad service to update player firmware for... $30.

A DVD not playing on my PS3? Like I'd update my firmware for that, I watch almost all of my DVDs on my recorder.

Ahhhh, well that does clarify things a bit. I bet they get a lot of negative customer feedback from less-knowledgeable customers about blu-rays not playing.

No worries. I'm actually amazed I made it to 47

Same deal that I got.

No price tags on either BD. I consider that a bonus itself.

This may have been discussed already, but I wonder why there's no reviews for the Avatar blu-ray anywhere. Did the review sites not get early copies? Is there an agreement between review sites and 20th Century to delay the reviews?
