He'll turn 32 in a week. Not sure about the number of years in that contract.

Granted, Snell is not a high-velocity pitcher, so the mileage on his arm may be less than most 32-year-olds.

There was talk about the Mets kicking tires on Snell, and I'm glad he went to another team. I'd be concerned with him and too much time on the IL. Oh well, the Dodgers know a lot about that.

Braves signed Acuna, who can put up similar numbers to Soto when healthy (I know, he's injured a lot), for a fraction of the price the Mets paid Soto.

Looking at a list of the top-25 or so richest MLB contracts and it seems like a good 80-90% of them have gone somewhere between poorly and disastrous for the team. Really, the only once that work out OK are those for the Dodgers, for whom money overpaid matters literally zero. I'm not convinced the Mets (or even the Yankees, if they'd re-signed Soto) will stomach a deal like this as easily as the Dodgers, without trying to cut costs at some point. The one guy I work with whose a diehard Mets fan HATES this signing and knows it'll be a disaster. MLB isn't anything like the NBA where one or two players can carry you to titles or the NFL where a top-tier QB can win you Super Bowls like Brady or Mahomes.

Remember when Carlos Beltran’s FA signing as a Met for 7 years, $119 million was considered a huge deal?

Almost 20 years later, and look at the massive Soto contract.

Baseball has gotten ridiculous, honestly.

I expected this outcome with Soto but I don't like it at all. Oh well, it's a done deal so all I can do now is welcome him aboard and hope for the best.

congrats to the Mets.... i guess...

i dont want any player for 15 years, so not really too upset he picked the Mets over Yanks..brings him to 41 at end of contract.

would have put Yanks in a tough spot with Soto, Judge and Stanton all with a real possibility of all being DH's in the future.

I just have a feeling that Soto is going to be good but not great next season. These contracts are just fantasy land now, almost 800 million and a decade and a half for a guy that hits like 40 hr / 100 rbi and plays a sub par outfield with a not so great arm.
