The Mortal Kombat 2-Film Collection Steelbook was $14.99 on release.

It now sells for around $40 on the secondary market.

This is $12.99, and includes Legacy (no matter what you think about it), so it's cheaper and more complete:

So you admit that you're not actually collecting the films, but the value of the packaging?

I paid $9.99 for the steelbook (thanks to a free $5 mystery certificate) and $1.00 for Mortal Kombat Legacy at the Dollar Tree.

I paid $10.99 and also got digital copies of all three.

I'm admitting that I paid less for the same three titles, have digital copies of all three, and also have a collectible set with far more resale value should I ever need to get rid of it.

Also there is a mortal kombat legacy 2, which I picked up for $3 in big lots about 3-4 years ago.

I dont get why someone would be so upset on if someone buys steelbooks. Lots of people do. If you dont, Hey thats cool too. I love steelbooks. Ut also wont buy them if they are $30 or more. Even $25 is rare for me. And as for sets ill avrage out thr cost of rach movie, so $60 for bttf would be $20 a movie which I think is fine. Especially for 4k. I also got it cheaper at Best Buy for $54.99.

$119.99 for the LoTR and Hobbit steelbook sets though I think is nuts

Theres also people that will pay extra for slipcovers. Im npt one of those people but if they like em then its whatever.

Based on what I’m seeing on the app, Target is not carrying this in stores.

I thought $119.99 was nuts as well. But...as I love them and wasn't a fan of the regular boxset, I still did it. I bought each theatrical movie on DVD upon release; followed up by the extended and then upgraded to Blu-ray and again to 4K.

They had great DVD and Blu-ray boxsets for the extended editions so it was sad they didn't follow it up on 4K.

Personally, for steelbooks, I collect only specific series like the MCU and buying them on release day - which I do for all movies I want - it's only like $5 more than the standard disc. It only becomes more expensive with boxsets and they are more on the seldom purchase list.

Sadly i missed out on Thor Ragnorak, Antman and Wasp, and Guardians 2. Dudnt really get my steelbook craze until those cheap disney steelbooks in late 2019.

Same, plus both Spiderman's, plus Hulk. I got them all later, but it was a struggle. 2 were imported, and I supplied the discs. 1 from a reseller, the rest were released again later. Never going to chance another one again. Pre-order on all steelbooks from Marvel and Disney proper for me, forever more. I still need the Little Mermaid 4K steelbook, and others, but have it in my cart at Zavvi.

Admit I'm not a steelbook collector. I think they look cool, but can rarely justify the premium for them, especially since - for me - what I ultimately want is the disc inside. Only time I'll pick up a steelbook (and this goes for video games, too) is if the price of that version gets discounted so it is close to/identical to that of the standard version.

Any inside track on whether Target will do the buy 2 get one free sales again? I mostly used those last year to build my vinyl collection and they did a ton up through February of this year, but only 1 since and it left out music. There was some talk that they were just liquidating their media inventory and I'm wondering if they achieved that goal and won't be doing the sales again.

To be fair, 15% off of $33.99 for the 4K is still a ridiculously high price so who cares?

For about $2.00 more (after 15% discount) you can get the 4K in a nice steelbook packaging at Best Buy for $29.99. Just saying...
