Yeah, sometimes King writes some really perverted stuff. I can't remember if the short story was in Skeleton Crew or Nightmares and Dreamscapes but there was one where this boy in a library
[Show spoiler]gets molested/raped.
I started reading his books when I was in early middle school and remember thinking wtf.

King must have been intoxicated when he wrote these novels.

Most likely. Well he's admitted in the past that through a lot of his career he was doing some heavy drinking as well as coke.

King wrote IT and several other novels under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. Supposedly, his bout with alcoholism was so bad, he can't recall ever writing Cujo.

That would explain a lot of things then.

My issue with the ending of IT had less to do with the supposed perversity of the content and more to do with the fact that I thought it was just plain dumb.

Though to be fair, I wasn't as open-minded back then with regard to
[Show spoiler]genre mixing as I am now so my dislike for the abrupt shift from gothic horror to sci-fi might have also colored my reaction to the whole ritual of Chud or whatever it actually was.

Great freaking book though.

Yeah, you always want at least a little ambiguity in your sewer-dwelling, child-murdering clowns

He needs to be a clown, a clown kids would come to and not be terrified of straight off
Sure this may be shot for atmosphere but it's a little too on the nose

I'm still not sure on this remake. I love the original and I'd hate to see us have another Poltergeist on our hands. I will definitely give it a chance when it comes out though.

I love the TV movie as well, but mostly for nostalgic reasons. Once I read the book, I couldn't believe how much they changed and left out. So this one should be closer to the book and therefor much different, I guess. Probably difficult to compare the two adaptions. Gonna check this one out day 1.

I've never actually read the book before. I'm not much of a reader honestly (except comics). I could imagine it being much different though. Not many books translate faithfully from everything I read.

The original was just a TV-mini-series though. It's dated by today's standards. Think about it, what else is good about the original besides Tim Curry? Tim Curry seems to be the ONLY thing that elevates the first IT.

I never looked at it being a TV movie as a negative mark against it.

I agree that its extremely dated and very tame since it's a tv movie, but Tim Curry was not the only great thing. The acting was great, the special effects were excellent, and the direction was good too.
