Amazon must have gotten a lot of questions or complaints about not being able to play the Blu-ray. They have the following on the Avatar page...

"Please note: This edition of the film is not in 3D. Also, we recommend customers with older Blu-ray players update their player firmware to ensure successful playback of this product. More information about Blu-ray player firmware updates can be found here."

Best Buy actually had a sign posted by all of the Avatar displays as well saying pretty much the same thing regarding firmware, but they were trying to peddle their geek squad service to get people updated.

I was in Blockbuster today to see if any rental copies were available (despite my being completely sure they didn't) and was able to watch a bit of the Blu being displayed. I really can't make any fair review of the PQ, but of what I did see, it looks nothing short of reference. I wasn't stunned by it, as I've been spoiled by Blu's for so long, but it does look exactly like it should. My question: should I purchase this release now or will be the extras on the future release be enough to justify me waiting until then?

I have a Panasonic DMP-BD35, and it is playing just fine. It did take slightly longer for the movie to load, but it's working.

Man I doubt it is a good idea to form an opinion of PQ when viewing it at blockbuster. Anyways I watched some scenes, It is definitely one of the best Blu rays, but I don't think its better than "Star Trek" or 'At Worlds End".

Also Purchase if you can't wait until November and will watch a lot. If you are going to watch it once or twice before November I'd just rent it and wait.

OK so last night (1206) on my way home I played the DVD in my car and thought it looked awesome. Then I thought that I kind of talked my self into it. This is the third time I have seen someone rave about the DVD...Thanks

Same here.

As a matter of fact that was the only reason that I became a member here, however as I took a look around this place I became hooked.

I did not have a download. Are there any issues with this player. Going to go pick it up my copy in a few minutes. Had to wait for the kiddies to go to sleep. Well truth be told I am also going to go see Kick-Ass right after I pick it up....

Maybe you didn't turn off the pop up menu?
