So you're going to be "that" guy? Do you think you'll crap in the box office thread and this one for a while or will you need to consolidate resources and move in here full time?

To each his own, but this film was so much more than simple eye candy.

It is not the best of the Marvel movies (to me at least) and not the best movie of this year, but it was perfect for what it was intended to be, a light heart, quick witted summer blockbuster.

It's not hard to follow the movie - that wasn't my point. Context is the big problem. I don't know jack about Thanos or Ronin or whatever the hell else they kept referencing. Nothing registered or mattered because I haven't read the Marvel Guide half a dozen times. It was just lazy writing.
I went to a 10PM 2D showing, so the crowd wasn't too big(maybe 35-40% of the theater was full) since everyone was at the 3D IMAX screening. But they were loving the jokes. Now in fairness, some of these same people laughed their asses off at the Dumb & Dumber To trailer before the movie which I thought looked dreadful, so humor is subjective as you say.

As for Thanos, they're building him up kinda like Emperor Palpatine in the Holy Trilogy. They pretty much ripped off Empire Strikes Back with Ronan speaking before Thanos like Vader was doing with the Emperor and having him appear via hologram. So you don't have to know much about him right now other than he's a powerful, scary dude.

In the way that I said in the rest of that post.

Humor. Wit. Point on dialog. Etc.
Like I said, perfect for what they intended to create and a heck of a good time in my opinion.

Yeah I got that...because I've seen Star Wars and this so painfully ripped that infinitely superior movie off in such a blatant way that Lucasfilm should consider a lawsuit. This is the problem with so many movies like this that are fan favorites, they spend their time riffing on better movies or referencing them or showing how much they love those movies that they forget to make a memorable movie to begin with. This probably felt more like a Joss Whedon movie than Avengers - with all of the painfully stupid and pathetic references a Whedon product comes with.

  • Nebula as the child who could never live up to her "father's" standards. Wanting nothing more to prove her worth, only to be continually looked over, defeated by what he saw in her sister Gamora.

This movie dealt with loss, and redemption, in a way that most movies don't. It doesn't have try and be pseudo serious to prove its points. It just has to tell a tale that works, and ultimately feels satisfying.

Hah. Nah... I am sick of talking about that film.

I'm just glad Marvel knows how to embrace the absurd joy of it's universe.

Come and Get Your Love and Hooked on a Feeling were my favorites. The whole mix is so awesome though

I'm slightly disappointed Spirit in the Sky wasn't used in the movie, but it's not a big deal.

Agreed. I love Batman Begins/The Dark Knight and strongly like Man of Steel...but I also love the more light and humorous tone of the Marvel films as long as it is done right. Which, it is not always done correctly, but I'd say it is more often than not.

So Disney should sue Disney over a homage? Okay... whatever you say.

And as much as I love the Star Wars films... if you're going to cry foul over a homage....

You kinda missed that Star Wars was Lucas's love letter to Flash Gordon and Kurosawa.

Not to mention every other thing that is homaged in the Star Wars fllms.

Like C-3PO basically being a male version of Maria from Metropolis. Etc., etc., etc.

Lucas changed enough in his film to where it doesn't feel like a rip of Kurosawa or Flash Gordon.

Not so much here, honestly.

Btw is "Ronan" not Ronin.

Ronin would be a samurai.
