It's literally the same discs though, it's not a new SE or anything. You got the same discs months earlier, I don't see why you'd regret it.

Is it strange that the singles have not been announced yet? From what I can tell, Fallen Kingdom was announced for September 18 back in July, but no word of splitting up the collection. If I recall correctly, the announcement for the new Mummy and the older Mummy singles came at the same time.

At this point, they may either announce the singles in 2019 or 2020 (during a time when they have no new JP/JW movies to promote), or they wait until after the "Ultimately Jurassic 6-Movie Collection" comes out in various forms (except individually) to announce individual Steels, followed by regular cases, followed by an updated set...and the cycles goes on from there!

Hopefully that cycle ends in 2023 with a 30th anniversary remastering of the 4K scan, an impressive HDR grade, and DV; bonus for eeking out every sliver of quality w/bitrate topping out 90GB> of the 100GB disc.

Jurassic Park clearly uses the old scan from the ildDVD. Just unacceptable

That's been my guess all along. Explains why Lost World looks fine, because Uni didn't think it was worth their attention.

25th Anniversary and yet Universal can't bother with a proper 4k release. They are something else.

Universal probably thinks they did a great job with this set and all the other botched discs, otherwise they wouldn’t keep filtering. It’s their thing. 99% of the population has no idea what DNR means and probably loves how they look. That 99% probably thinks Sony titles suck because of the grain.

Little bit of over-dramatic going on here isn't there? They DNR'd the transition scenes and whatnot, but the vast majority of the movie keeps the grain.

Yeah the first movie isn't that bad, it could just be better.

It keeps something that seems vaguely grainy but it's just got this filtered, processed look throughout.

That wasn't at all how I felt watching it. I felt like it mostly looked film-like and well done but then there were weird processed shots every handful of minutes. Granted I only watched it once, and not in Geoff-O-Vision, but that was my experience. Maybe I'll check it out again soon.

If you like it then you like it, we're not going to change each other's opinions on it, Geoffy Vision™ or not. It's not a z-grade disaster but there's something 'off' about it, and as soon as I put in Lost World my jaw damned near hit the floor as the grain looks beautiful and it rammed home how fudged JP1 actually is.

There's definitely something off about it, and I speculated many posts ago that Universal had limited elements to deal with (perhaps because of the fire?). Or maybe they just went cheap since they had the 3D intended scan. In any case I agree it's disappointing and "off," I just thought people were being over-dramatic when saying it was a complete loss or whatever.

I felt 1 was a big disappointment. I did not think I was watching film, I knew I was watching video.

Now 2 and 4 really started my engines.

Agreed. I thought that JP1 was one of the worst UHDs I've seen a quite a while. To be fair, a big part of that is that we've been getting a lot of great stuff this year, but unfortunately it also left a lot on the table compared to what it could have been. It doesn't get a pass from me.

But yeah, 2 and 4 looked great. 3 not so much, but it was the only one I had never seen and for reasons that I can't even begin to explain I really enjoyed the movie.

I'm gonna spend the next 10 minutes trying to find my original post about JP now because of you guys! I remember being disappointed but nowhere near to the level you guys are saying. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Edit: Oh I guess I did really dislike it. Bummer.

For years I quite enjoyed Jurassic Park III. Then I re-watched it on BD a few years ago and thought it was extremely... meh.
