Just tried to purchase a RW 15in sub and it seems that there are no more. Are they still selling AA sub or is there something going on with the manufacturer? I did see 2-3 on Ebay.

I noticed that as well. At one point they had quite a number of subs on ebay, not anymore it seems. Most of them are on their website though, so perhaps they decided to de-emphasis ebay and go with direct (read: full price) sales. Not sure though...

I would think if it's merely a depleted stock issue they wouldn't be listed on their website too, but being that they are it infers something else. But who knows - stranger things have happened...

Wow, what a great site and an even greater thread!
![]() This is my first post here, but just wanted to say that I am going to be receiving a pristine HD-SUB10 tomorrow evening from one of my brothers. He's upgraded to twin 12" Polk subs and will be bringing the AA sub over tomorrow. Anyway, I'll be using this sub in my apartment in the HT system. Now I'm not new to subs at all or how to set them up properly. In fact, I used to design and install home audio/theater systems professionally years ago. I've also had my fair share of small and large DIY subs as well as a couple of Sunfire, Earthquake and large SVS subs. I was under the impression that this was the HD-SUB12, but it is in fact the 10. So I might at some point move this one to the rear and upgrade to the 12 later on for up front. And that's the point behind this post... What are peoples views on the HD-SUB10? There's loads and loads of info and reviews on the 12 (mainly in this thread), but not a whole lot about the 10. I've never heard this sub before so I'm just curious how it stacks up against the 12 as far as bass quality and extension is concerned. Keep in mind, this IS going into a second floor apartment, so it's not like I'll be blasting the thing at all, but I can get some vibrations going if you know what I mean. It'll be paired up to my AV123 X-Statik's and matching X-Voce. Here's a quick pic of the current setup. Also notice that I have a dedicated 2-ch music only system on the same rack... ![]() Last edited by ChopsRR; 11-17-2011 at 05:51 PM. |

The first picture is the picture of the 12" Planet Audio. The 15" driver is even bigger. I don't have a picture out of the box. |

BD, that looks great. Did you use the amp that came with the AA sub and did you have to modify it? Is the X-over setting the same. Just asking because I have a RW 15 AA sub. I can't imagine a stronger sub in my HT, but is does not mean I don't like tinkering with things.

Big D, I doubt I'll be doing anything like that with this sub. As I said, I live on the second floor of an apartment. I can't have something super powerful or the neighbors will be annoyed. That's actually why I got rid of the SVS PB12-Plus/2 I had. It was a great sub, but even at low volumes that thing dug so deep it would shake the entire complex. It had usable output down to 14Hz! Plus it was huge and we really didn't have the room for it.
Depending on how this little HD-SUB10 performs, I might just get another identical sub to put in the corner of our couch and love seat. My Onkyo TX-SR607 has dual sub outs, so why not use them! ![]() Last edited by ChopsRR; 11-18-2011 at 02:07 PM. |

I got to play w/my 12” this past weekend a bit and think I may have it set to just the right spot where it’s not overpowering but still gives off a nice low end while watching movies.
Can’t wait to throw something in 2nite and test it out. ![]() |

BTW, my brother brought over the sub last night, we set it up and I ran the Audyssey calibration on my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver. After all was said and done, the subwoofer level on the back of the sub was set at around the 2 o'clock position and -3 on the receiver. It is roughly 1' from the front wall and about 4' from the side wall. I tweaked all of the crossover points and have the mains and center crossed at 60Hz, the front and rear surrounds at 90Hz and the sub at 80Hz. Also, for best results, I have the phase switch on the sub set to 180*.
My brother has already done a couple of simple mods to this sub as far as pulling the driver and putting more poly-fill in, and also removed the stock plastic feet and screwed in big, nice and very sharp spiked feet. The movie for the night was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. I can honestly say, this is the best 50 bucks I have ever spent on a piece of stereo equipment! Being the first time for me to hear this sub (and to watch this movie), I was totally amazed at the sound of this little thing. It's small and weighs nearly nothing, but the quality and amount of bass that effortlessly pours out of this thing is shocking to say the least, and is up there right along with the big name brand subs on the market. I've read several posts that say these subs can be a little boomy with music and/or lack some detail. I found none of this to be true. It's could be a combination of the poly-fill, spiked feet and most importantly, the position of the sub in the room. I could easily hear the subtle details in the music throughout the movie as well as the music in the end credits. I could also slight details during the action scenes in the movie. Then again, I do have my front 3 channels running down to 60Hz, so I'm probably getting a lot of that detail from those which is a good thing obviously. So maybe I'm getting most of my bass details from the main channels, but still, this sub is nowhere near being boomy. It just does what it's supposed to do, fill in the bottom end and add in all of that impact, which it does quite well. It also does a pretty good job of pressurizing the room with bass down around the 20-25Hz region. It kind of reminded me of the little SVS PB10-NSD I had for a while, though that one definitely dug deeper that this HD-SUB10. Even at pretty high volume levels, this sub just thundered away shaking the entire room and floor without any signs of stress, distortion or chuffing. The amplifier never got hot either, just slightly warm. All in all, it's a great little sub for the money for sure and like I said, can compete very well against the big boys out there. I can very easily see another one of these HD-SUB10's finding its way into my system at some point. If I have to gripe about anything it would be about the "auto on/off" feature. The sub seemed to be off more than on, and it would shut off rather quick, probably within 20 seconds or less. I just went and flipped it on permanently, then turned it off when I shut the rest of the system down. With that said, I give this little guy ![]() ![]() |

How close is that to the wall? With the rear-firing port I would have assumed it needed to be a foot or more away in order to properly dissipate, but it seems yours is closer then that. Also, what are those isolators you're using? They look like tiny hockey pucks.

Ha, I thought those were hockey pucks! Very inventive...
![]() 14" sounds about right. I figured if it was much closer it wasn't going to work all that well. The picture just makes it appear closer I guess. |
