It’s not about the filmmaker’s perception but about the audience’s. And, fairly or not, if you were to ask who made JURASSIC PARK, I’d wager 95 out of 100 people would say Spielberg, not Crichton, and Spielberg is BIG. I don’t think any studio would dare insult a director of his caliber by relaunching this franchise without his input.

I just don't think Spielberg has the affection for this franchise and attachment to it being his that you as a fan are imposing. Maybe in the 90's this could never dream of being touched by any other director but the landscape around him and this property is not that sacred anymore. I highly doubt it would be as you are making out for a reboot that was made primarily to be a more hard edged serious book adaptation to honour Crichton's legacy.

I agree with Congo. Much as I love the cheese we got it could be an epic gritty movie done properly... but even with JP I'm open to within 15 years a hard reboot. And this is a movie I seen the most (100+ viewings) and is, well, top 5 movies ever for me. For sure if you asked me 10 years ago I would have had your viewpoint.

Universal is gonna do this eventually so why do the token "wait till he's dead" gesture? Same with Waterworld that should also be remade, and why not soon as Tom Hardy is still in the window...

I'm against remaking Jurassic Park because Crichton wrote the screenplay himself, however I'm so glad to see someone gets this. Re-adapting the sources material is different from remaking. It's just like everyone complaining about the Hellboy reboot.

I would more than welcome re-adaptations of Sphere, Congo, & the Terminal Man though.

And David Koepp re-wrote a lot of it, so it's not exactly Crichton. Plus, with today's FX, they cold actually make it faithful to the book and deliver a different experience.

I would argue though those two movies' original films are not as well loved and highly regarded as Jurassic Park. Don't mistake me saying that they're not highly regarded. I just don't think they as highly regarded or well loved as Jurassic Park.
