It wasn’t the Sheriff that died that way. It was Dr. Sartain.

I agree. At first when it came out I liked it because it was exciting to see Laurie and Michael reunite since 1981. But now I don’t like it. I don’t think it has aged well. Too many fake scares, too much like Scream, using the actual score from Scream 1 (), too many different masks that becomes distracting, horrible CGI mask and laziness on the small details like giving Michael burnt scars. Even Jamie Lee Curtis said recently she only did it for the money.

I had a great time with this movie. IMO it was as good as it could've been. If it seems dull, it's mainly because you've seen this kind of movie a hundred times by now and there's only so much you can do with Michael Myers. Humor worked to liven up the picture, but it still really looked and felt like a true continuation of the original, wisely wiping out all the lame sequels that followed over the years.

A classic? No, but it's easily, not even close, the best of the sequels for me. H20 seems little more than a SCREAM rip-off today and that movie also had more humor.

Do you need to watch any specific sequel or the original* before watching this one?

the only movie you have to watch is the original. none of the sequels exist in this movie. not even the 1981 halloween 2 exists

I like H20, it feels similar to the other late 90s/early 2000s horror-thrillers. Most of which I like. There’s a reason people refer to it as HallowScream. It was the first Halloween film I saw. My friends and I snuck into it in theaters as underage teenagers.

I thought it was alright. 3/5.

I didn't think it was any better than a some of the sequels it wipes out of continuity (though I understand why the film makers thought it necessary).

I felt the conclusion of H20 was more satisfying.

It'll do extremely well at the box office I believe.

Thumbs up

I saw it twice last night, in Dolby. (Thanks, A-List!) I'm not going to say it's my favorite Myers sequel, because I have much love for H2 and H4. But it's up there.

H18 is very reminiscent of H2. Not only specific callbacks (like scenes shown in the second trailer), but also in how it's filmed. The way it keeps the suspenseful style of the original, but then goes a step farther with some nasty gore. And bright splashes of color accentuating the dark cinematography.

Some people may dismiss all the nods to previous sequels (not just H2) as fan service that takes them out of the movie, and I can see that. But to a longtime fan like me, it helps the movie fit like a comfy sweater. This really feels like an "alternate universe" H2.

More thoughts to come!

Ah, you’re right. I didn’t get home from the movie until 3am. My brain is scrambled right now.

That boggles my mind, considering most of people on Reddit are complaining that there is too much gore in this film and it makes it feel more like a Jason film than a Myers film.

There are a couple little homages to Halloween II and Halloween III that was fun to see play out/appear...but nothing required.

They were true sequels when they were made. But yes, there are multiple timelines in this franchise. H3 is infamously not about Myers at all. His story picks up again in H4. Then H20 does something similar to what the new movie does: Bring back Jamie Lee Curtis, and ignore the sequels after H2. Then, Rob Zombie directed a remake and its sequel. Now, Halloween 2018 ignores all the previous sequels, and serves as a direct follow-up to the original.

$40 gets you a ten-disc Complete Collection on Blu-ray at Walmart. Not sure how that stacks up to buying them digitally.

You'll be fine going into this if you've only seen the original. There are a lot of nods for longtime fans familiar with all the films, though. That does add another level of enjoyment.

FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Universal's Halloween grossed a massive $7.7 million from Thursday night previews in ~3,200 theaters last night with showings beginning at 7PM. This is more than $2 million more than The Nun brought in from previews just last month before opening with $53.8 million.

We'll take a closer look at things tomorrow morning once Friday estimates come in. For now you can check out our weekend preview below.

I went to the 7pm showing last night. It was about 3/4 full. No Happy Death Day 2 trailer.

I loved the film. Nice to see a good Halloween movie without unnecessary sex and nudity. The kills were aplenty and fun. The score was amazing.

But it does have some faults. There were no good long chase scenes. And the lead teenage girl is so forgettable. She looks 30. Her best friend was more memorable.

Isn't that set OOP? Vanished from the stores here about a month ago, going for over $100 on Amazon.

My 7pm showing last night was sold out days ago. In fact, the 7pm, 8pm, and 9:30pm were all sold out before Thursday.

Also, I really liked the actress who played the granddaughter. She's very pretty, but in a "girl next door" sort of way. She's not stunning or jaw dropping like a high end fashion model or IG celebrity. As someone who grew up in suburban/small town Illinois, she looks exactly like the type of girls I went to high school with.

OH WAIT. I forgot. One of the trailers I got last night in front of it was for a Eminem-produced movie about a white kid doing battle-rapping. It was called Bodied and looked pretty freaking bad.
