I think the name of this thread should now be titled the Official Fulci thread.

They do take forever. I have Pieces and in an article about the film in Rue Morgue magazine it said that the film was in development for 7 years! Anyway people, you need to check out the Grindhouse Releasing's of Cat in the Brain. Not only for the film. Which is great. But for the extras which contain a 45 minute interview with the man himself and a featurette of his legendary appearance at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors con.
I actually sent a very nice e-mail to Grindhouse about the Cat in the Brain DVD. It looked so damn amazing that I almost begged them to release it on Blu-ray. Never got a reply to that mail...

I don't buy DVD's anymore, and I need Cat in the Brain.

Great to see that Fulci is still alive. And I'm gonna see Don't Torture a Duckling in a couple of hours.

Love the drill scene in City of the Living Dead by the way. And the splinter to the eye scene in Zombie 2... Ah, how I miss Fulci.

FULCI LIVES!!!!
That drill scene is impressive. The visual effect was flawless, especially for that era. I don't know how he did it. I still see it and think "how the hell did they do that".

I'd definitely rebuy City of the Living Dead on blu ray. That was an all out excellent horror. New York Ripper I probably will.

Yep, I agree 100%. Amazing special effect. It's a shame that (bad) CGI are used instead of the good old prostethics. Who can forget Tom Savini's amazing head explotion (on himself!!!) in Maniac? Great art...

Just seen Don't Torture a Duckling. Great movie, but nowhere near what I consider Fulci's top 5. I think Dario Argento and Mario Bava handles the giallo genre with more style and expertice.

Anyway it's a must see for any fan of giallo... and/or Fulci.

What's everybody think of Lizard in a Women's Skin and The Psychic? Wanting to check out those. And is the Fulci film you DIDN'T like? For me is was Demonia. The fx where fakey and the lead female character certainly didn't envoke any simpathy from me.

Oh man, oh man... I feel like a dork. Haven't seen ANY of these! Shame on me! Gonna have to pick up on my Fulci.

The one Fulci that didn't quite do it for me was Conquest. I love the Conan type movies. Even the bad ones like The Barbarians (gotta love cheesy fun!). But I felt that Conquest approached the genre with too much seriousnes. And that didn't quite work for me...

Lizard in the one with the scene with the dogs that got Fulci in some legal trouble! Absolutely shame on you! You lose some of your horror cred. Sorry dude just kidding . What's that one called that stars Fred Williamson that (I think) has a plot similar to the Running Man?

Yep, I know about the dog. They even had to bring in the SFX guys with the mecanic dog in the courtroom just to prove it was an effect.

Gonna see it this week.

The movie you're thinking about is Fighting Centurions. This one:

Lot's of fun!!!!

that's because Argento and Bava are 100 times better than Fulci in the
sense of style, direction, and atmosphere.
Fulci usually ruins his movies by having excessive (and repulsive) gore laced
throughout-- something that I think always cheapen horror flicks considerably. (though I acknowledge that millions of horror fans love gore!!)

I always prefered Argento over Fulci myself, but to call Fulci's use of gore "cheap" and that it ruins his movies is something I don't agree on. Fulci had a unike style where the violence and gore played an important part in most of his well know movies. Movies like The Beyond and The New York Ripper are benchmarks in the genre. At least in my oppinion.

Even a stylish horrormovie like The Omen uses graphic and excessive gore, and I can't find anything cheap about that movie...

'The Psychic' was great, very underrated Fulci film. (But don't expect a gorefest in typical Fulci style)

I consider myself a huge Fulci fan, but I have to admit that I have missed out on MANY of his 50+ movies... And from what I have read it's only the "better known" movies like The Beyond, House By The Cemetary, Zombie 2 and the movies of this era that's really gory.

So what is a "typical Fulci style"? The style he's most known for, or the style he has used in most of his movies...?

typical Fulci Style: off-kilter acting, over the top gore

The Psychic has alot mood, good story and very good acting, just light on the violence. It surprised me, in that it never fell into those own cliches of his - overall though, it's a little more understated but still thrilling.

Just seen A Lizard In A Womans Skin, and I loved it!!

Lots of nudity, great suspence and some nice gore. Not Fulci's best, but well worth a Blu-ray release.

This little cult film produced in 1982, in its own way looks better and more film-like than a recent Best Picture winner from the same era as released on Blu-ray.
Now which film could he be talking about?
