There is A 12" X 12" x 6" chunk of foam covered with black felt underneath the stand !

Good job Crazy. How high are the legs? Remember that we call the DIY subwoofer stands Grampa as opposed to Gramma. Read my post to see what Grampa stands for.

The stand raised the sub 7 inches . I also played with settings during PEARL HARBOR & found out that it sounds much better when the LOW PASS is set around 100 instead of 160 , With volume nob on back of sub set at 3/4 volume!
Of course -15 dbl on the receiver for the the attack was something else!
I've read what Grampa stands for the morning you posted it !!!!!

The legs are maple & the top is MDF All was scrap from work .(free)
I have the legs on the stand placed directly below the feet of the of the sub so there are no issues with the board itself !!

I just decided how to spend your money. Instead of building another sub riser, you need a second subwoofer to supplement your full-size speakers.

You better apply for food stamps now. By the time I am finished spending your money, you will need them.

Big Daddy ~ I just read both of those reviews you put in you're last post .
I have to thank you for making my world of HT better ! you're sticky's & suggestions have made my system so much better ~ CENTER SPEAKER ~ SUB STAND W/BASS TRAP ~ AMPS !! the biggest help being the stickys most of the time!

Do risers primarily help down-firing subs? sorry if this is a repeat question.. I'm just thinking in terms of sub wave output. You'd recalibrate of course, but ultimately how does it help if all else is equal?

No, they help both front-firing and down-firing. DobyBlue has one for his Paradigm front-firing sub. Two of my subs are front-firing and two are down-firing.

If you are having trouble with your sub in your HT room, risers can help. They make the sound louder, more even and clearer. They are so cheap and without any risk.

If you are a do-it-yourself kind of a person, build one or you can buy Grama risers from Auralex.

I might build one as a test, for $30 why not! There seems to be plenty of anecdotal support (elsewhere as well as here), I'm just curious what the reasoning / physics of sound behind this would be.... off to research.

Did you mean he is FULL OF IT?

With the Round Great Grampa and longer legs for the cylindrical subwoofers, I noticed a bigger difference. I don't know if it was because it was taller or if it was because I used them on down-firing subwoofers that had very short spikes.
