Resume is possible on BD-J titles. I have personally written the code and it will incorporated on all future BD-J releases that I work on.

Though I didn't work on this particular release, anyone who has Bug's Life can test how resume on a BD-J title will work. It was the first title to market with the capability.

Can't all studios, including European studios, be told how to do it, or shown example code of how to do it so that all new titles will work with resume play? One of the best thing about non BD-J titles is they load much faster, and they all work with Resume Play.

I voted... the 3rd option. It does not matter.

i've always wondered, is it possible for hardware to implement auto-resume that will work for all discs?

Have it on my PS3 for some titles and even though it can be nice to start a film where I left of, it can also be annoying if I want to start again at a later date. The amount of times I have watched certain titles and it starts with the end credits makes me laugh.

Voted not bothered ever way.

Walk Hard from Sony has that facility as well. And HSM3 from Disney. They both ask if you would like to continue from where you stopped last viewing when putting the disc in again.

The industry is very competitive. One authoring house is not going to share with another. If the BDA was to publish the code as a spec update, then all would have access to it.

Thumbs down

I just wish they would dump b j discs. It is bad enough with movies. With tv series like heroes it is utterly woeful. Putting it as a technical limitation is an understatement. They could hide the bookmarking in the player so to the user it was seemless. But the fundamental oversite is a joke

Remember, though, not all discs give you the option to leave a bookmark.

Glad this "limitation" isn't true.

How many of those without the option are BD-J titles?

Actually, from what I have read here...yes, the limitation is partly true. What is happening is the discs are auto bookmarking the film so you can resume.

I don't know if that is the code that is being used now but a few titles do now auto bookmark to allow resume.

And Sony was the one who said the limitation was true. I even quoted their answers directly.

It doesn't matter for me, when I start a movie I finish it and for TV series, I just never use the Play All features, I pick by episodes

By Resume Play, I mean after you press stop on a Blu-ray title pressing play will always continue on from the point you were at when you pressed stop instead of having to load the entire disc from the start again and then go into scene selection to get back to approximately where you were. Same thing for when you press pause for a while and then the Blu-ray player automatically goes into stop mode.
I don't know how many times I have hit stop by accident and had to restart the whole damn movie.

I do it almost nightly. Start a movie, turn it off, turn it on the next night or a few nights later. I know, I know, someone will be here shortly (if not already) to scream about how this takes away from "the artists' visions!!" I don't care about the artists.

I'd love the feature, but I'm not up in arms about not having it on every movie.

YES! I like that I can stop a DVD, turn off the DVD player, and the following day I pick up from the spot I left off at.

I don't like that I can't do this with Blu-Ray discs. I accidentally hit the stop button while watching a movie last night and had to start from scratch. How annoying...

I personally love the way Lost season 1&2 have the season play feature. every time I go back to watch, it picks up right where I left off, even in the middle of an episode (I have kids, interruptions happen). I have never seen another Blu that starts where you left off, though I have heard there are a few out there. I know you can bookmark, but it should do it automatically and give us the option to resume if desired. Not a big deal i guess, but it would be nice.

It IS true for hardware-based resuming such as what the PS3 does. If a title uses BD-J it needs to be programmed in and must be accessed from inside the movie.

I love this feature of A Bug's Life. I love Season Play on Seasons 1 & 2 of Lost. I love the PS3's ability to resume where left off on non-BD-J titles. Does your BD-J code prompt the viewer to resume or start from the beginning?

My BIGGEST complaint about Blu-Ray is the long wait times before te movie starts. Blu-Ray warnings, FBI warnings, studio stingers, studio disclaimers, JUST GET TO THE MOVIE ALREADY. If I have the option, I ALWAYS go to the scene selection menu, select the SECOND scene and then click the previous chapter button on my remote to start the movie at the beginning without having to watch all those stupid warnings and disclaimers. SOME programmers have gotten clever and use BD-J to determine whether or not you've seen the warning/disclaimers during this sitting and display them even if you attempt to start the movie somewhere that isn't the beginning. You sly dogs.

I'm new to this site. I'm having the same problem with the resume points on my new blu-ray discs. Is there something on the disc package that shows it is BD-J?
