my faviorate movie is chamber of secrets, its still for kids but the mystery is handled really well, along with the scary atomosphere, some people don't like it but I love it, its enbedded into my childhood forever.

Saw it last saturday. It was just 'ok' to me. It has a lot of the same problems as Phoenix did. The two friends I saw it with both came out saying the same thing, they were bored. One almost fell asleep. I didn't have that problem but it was light on the action. I did like a lot of the humor and the budding romances that played out through most of the middle of the film. It worked much better than the ballroom stuff from film 4.

I haven't read the books so didn't know what was going to happen, but the ending didn't have any sort of punch or emotional connection for me. It just sorta happened and that's that. That section was very poorly done IMO. Based on reading some of the spoiler posts in this thread, a bunch of you will be disappointed in that section as well.

It will do like all Potter films and make some good box office but I don't see many going back for repeat viewings in the theater.

I would give it a C+.

I have not read any of the books, but thought the movie was amazing. I will not be reading the posts here as I do not want to chance reading something about the 7th book which might spoil the next 2 movies for me.

Simply awesome. I need more time to digest but I will say this...

It does a great job of adapting the book, great. Better then OoTP for sure. There are going to be tons of pissings and moanings here about them changing this or that but I am telling those people preemptively to stop crying and learn more about filmmaking as opposed to written word story telling. They are different, and what works in one may not work in the other like for like, the things they altered here work just fine and certainly look great on screen. I have a hard time thinking die hard Potter fans will feel let down. those who are casual or flamers who call themselves die hards and then b*tch for three paragraphs just to get a rise will of course always have something to pollute the internet with.

It was great. A little heavy on the overt Ron+Hermione stuff for my taste, but I guess they can't afford much subtlety when so little time is afforded.

[Show spoiler]I also didn't mind the changes to the end. It worked fine without a huge fight, and it worked fine without the funeral. They better deliver both of these things in the next two films though.

Complainers about the lack of fight, cool it. You'll get your epic fight at the end of Movie 8. It makes absolute sense to hold it off from here, and furthermore, the way they handled Harry witnessing Dumbledore's death works just fine as well, particularly with the way Snape walks up and briefly interacts with Harry. I can't even recall why the invisibility cloak was ready at hand during the climax in the book.

"ts not hard to add a little action into a movie based around a fight between good and evil"

Subtle fight works better in my opinion. Rely on drama rather than action. You might not like it, and that's your prerogative, but that doesn't mean that it was a mistake to stage the climax that way. Personally, I kind of like seeing Harry being the only one to have a chance to attempt to stand up to them and to have him fail completely while all alone is effective at drawing more emotion out of the conflict, I'd say.

It makes sense to move the funeral for "the character" to the opening of the next film. I really think people need to stop thinking of Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows as seperate self-contained works, when instead HalfBlood Prince is the 1st act in a three part drama. This film and the next two are going to be one long form movie broekn into three sections, not unlike the Lord of the Rings. Half Blood is only Act One of that story, so don't be surprised to see events from one book ported over to another. The ending of the film version of The Fellowship of the Ring moves scenes over from the beginning of the novel of The Two Towers....this is going to be like that. I'm not upset about a lack of a funeral for "the character" as I'm certain down to my bones that's how the next film is going to begin.

Real quick review before I run off to a meeting. It was really good. My favorite Potter movie yet. I wish the tower scene wasn't cut, but still really good.

I get the feeling a DC/EE would be awesome for this movie. I just re-read the book after watching it, and from what I know they cut some scenes that would have added to the movie a great deal just to get it to 2 1/2 hours (which is what the studio deem is the maximum time a kid can sit down for without getting bored).

Not sure if they will do an EE, but it definitely deserves one. Maybe they will integrate some missing scenes into Hallows 1.

[Show spoiler]Dumbledore told him to keep it with him always and had him put it on before they flew into Hogwarts on Rosmerta's brooms. Dumbledore knew that cloak was better protection than most anything else.

Default In Harry's own words

One word can describe this film; In the words of Harry himself; "Brilliant"

The acting was fantastic, they followed and kept their loyalty to the book and the series. Some will say it lacked "action", not enough on the magic and special effects. I'd say it had just the right amount of both. The way Yates structured this film was simply masterful. Is it the best Potter yet? I think it is because instead of the super CGI graphics and all the pyrotechnics in every other scene, there was simply great storytelling supported by some outstanding actors and actresses. This is Academy Award material and since the Academy has expanded the Best Picture nominations to ten this year, this should be one of them, despite the fact it is the 6th installment in a series and the fact that motion pictures such as these normally don't garner awards from the Academy, at least in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Broadbent as Sluhorn) category's. People will be critical that it didn't follow the book exactly (too many missing parts) or that it "dragged" (boring) or not enough action/special effects or simply they had their expectations too high and were dissapointed. To those people, I'd say that they are simply looking for another mindless special effect action flick. If that's what they are looking for, go see Transformers 2 about 15 times, that ought to numb your brain, then go see Potter and I think you will appreciate Potter more. At least this film makes you think and yes it was very loyal to JK Rowling's masterpiece, even though pieces were left out, as in all of the previous Potter films.

As someone who has never read the books I loved it. I thought i was excellent. My wife who has read the books and even has a HP tatoo was very disapointed with the massive amounts of changes and things that were added and left out. She felt the same way after the 5th movie as well but thought the first 4 were pretty spot on to the books. She says she made a mistake reading the book this past week right before seeing the movie so everything was fresh in her mind. It will probably grow on her a bit though.

Not a book reader, but really enjoyed the movie.....I have been told that the book like the movie is really a set up for the next 2 movies, which is obvious but the movie is still very entertaining...
