LONG LIVE DTS MASTER AUDIO!
How do you know it has a 24 bit master?

V, for whatever reason, was definitely recorded very low. I usually play TrueHD tracks around -15 or so on my receiver. V I think was somewhere around -7. Once you crank it, the quality of the track is definitely there, but when switching between the louder DD track, I guess it would sound like it has more push behind it. But, like always with TrueHD, just turn it up

I love this movie, but will probably just stick with the DVD.

Default V for Vendetta Blu Ray Audio

I just got the V movie on Blu Ray and am VERY disappointed in the audio. I LOVE this movie, that's why I got the BD version. When watching, I couldn't believe the lack of audio. I remembered this movie to have some GREAT scense in it that had a lot of use of surrounds and deep bass.

I quickly put in my DVD version and it BLEW IT AWAY. For one, at the same audio level, the DVD version was MUCH louder and fuller. When I put the Blu Ray back in, I turned up the volume to see if this would help, and NO it didn't. It clearly lacks the audio depth the DVD has. I checked to make sure it didn't default to a lesser 2.0 audio track or something, and it didn't...it was DD 5.1.

Anyone else notice this?

It's not DD 5.1 on the BD, it's Dolby TrueHD 5.1. Make sure you are outputting the audio in its lossless form, and also make sure you don't have the night-time volume suppression feature enabled on your player/receiver.

+1
Everything he said is correct and should be checked before playback.

I find Warner Bros blu-rays annoying in the fact they don't load to a menu, they jump straight into the film on the default track, which is usually DD.

Most of their BDs used to do that up until last year when they started using DTS-HD Master Audio over Dolby TrueHD. Now, most of their titles go to a menu with Master Audio preselected.

But it lets you pop-up and change the audio without pausing the film or forcing you tracking through previews (/gag disney).

Something is wrong here with your setup, DD cant be better than trueHD.
Or you misinterpret louder as being better.

It is not better. I had the DVD and now I own the HD DVD. I can tell you that the Dolby TrueHD track is far superior to the regular Dolby Digital track for this release. Something is apparently wrong with your setup.

Nothing wrong w/ set up. Using a simple 5.1 setup w/ an Onkyo Receiver. Pop in the DVD, and the audio is great. Pop in the bluray and it's low. Have to crank it up some to get the audio to same listening level, but the bass is just better on the DVD. Switched from DD to TruHD and not much difference on the BD between the two.

My Onkyo doesn't decode TruHD, so I am using the Oppo player to do the decoding and send over the signals via multi channel analog outs to analog ins on my Onkyo, but that shouln't matter as all the othe BD's I've watched so far sound GREAT.

Noticed my thread was moved to an older thread someon posted last year w/ the exact same opinion as I.

It could be an BD specific issue, but I highly doubt there's anything wrong. All I know is that my HD DVD with TrueHD sounds much better than the DVD.

The TrueHD track is better than the DD one on the DVD, but the audio isn't the best, nor is the video. It's one of the lesser releases in my BD collection but at the least it wasn't hit with the DNR stick and it had lossless audio during a time when it wasn't commonplace to do so for Warner, so I have to give it credit there.

I loved the way the DVD sounded in the action scenes, that's why I wanted it on BD, hence my disappointment!!!! Put it back in last night and CRANKED it, and it did sound better. Couldn't believe how much louder I had to put my volume to get the bass to be comparible though. Still wouldn't classify the audio as improved on BD over the DVD version though...but at least I know where to set my audio level at when I go to watch it on BD now.

Volume has little to do with the actual audio quality. Make sure you remember that.

Realize that...was just saying that before I didn't have the volume high enough for the full effect I was hearing on the DVD.

Same with me. Watched Cloverfield last night. Had to turn it up about 10 spots higher than usual.
