Default V for Vendetta audio is really...quiet?

Picked this up recently for $9.99 at Best Buy and just got around to watching some of the BD and noticed that the BD seems to be recorded very low. I had to turn it up substantially more than a normal TrueHD or DD track just to get a decent level of sound. I don't have a lossless receiver, so I'm just extracting the core 640kbps audio, but I remember the DVD sounding more dynamic than the audio on this disc. Anyone else experience this with this BD?

Yep. And with the really cool use of music to compliment the explosions, I was pretty bummed out. Very underwhelming. No oomph.

Good to know I'm not alone. The DVD really did sound better, from what I remember. Early on when V detonates the tower it sounded very loud and dynamic, but it didn't sound as good on the BD.

Disagree completely with it not being as dynamic. For sure the volume is lower than on other comparable tracks, but once volume-matching comes into play it's as dynamic as the DVD. Make sure you don't have DRC on since this is a TrueHD track and can be affected by that.

I never have DRC on either the receiver or the BD/DVD players turned on. When I turned the volume up, it did sound good, but I don't think I've ever had to turn it up that much in order to get good sound. Was just curious to see if this was normal or not and I guess it is. Thanks.

Yes, that part is normal in my experience. Honestly, I think it fell prey to being an HD-DVD port. Maybe someday they'll release it with a new master- higher bitrate picture and better-quality audio. Still, it's a good jump over the DVD both in PQ and AQ in my estimation.

Yeah, the PQ was great in my opinion and the features are too. I think I've watched the SNL digital short three times.

I really don't think it needs a re-release. I do agree about the sound being too low, but the PQ is just fine. It's still well worth owning regardless of the audio volume. Just turn it up louder than normal and you're all set.

It sounds amazing on my setup. The last scene of the movie really gives my subwoofer a good workout. My experience with WB titles and TrueHD is that you just have to turn the volume up a little higher than say a Fox Blu-ray. Just turn it up 5-10 more on your volume and I am sure it will sound amazing.

I think the OP is talking about the core Dolby Digital track not the TrueHD.

I didn't have any problems with Watchmen at all. Sounded clear and defined during the entire film.

V sounds fine if I turn it up about 10 notches higher than usual, but I've never had to do that with a DVD or BD before.

True, but even so, the sound is low either way. A movie sounding low when your receiver can only do regular Dolby Digital or DTS is still going to sound low even in TrueHD or DTS-MA. While the sound being low in V for Vendetta is an annoyance, it's not anything that should keep anyone from buying this movie. Just simply turn it up louder than usual and it sounds just fine.

No, no, no... Lossless on HD DVD is still lossless on BD. The video, maybe, but Warner doesn't seem to use the extra space BD has even with new releases. They love that low bitrate, someone tell them this isn't golf. Lowers bitrates DO NOT win! lol

I really doubt there is anything "wrong" with the track. I would assume it's just the way it was mixed, but I'm just speculating like everyone else...

Agreed about Watchmen. I thought the sound on that was near perfection.
