I thought the audio was poor actually. The voices were not recorded well so its all muffled.

I watched it again this film yesterday night on blu... i think it gets worst with years, bad cgi (specially on blu)
It starts all right, but then at some point it kinda rushes to the end, could have been much better imo, i remember i used to love this film like 10 years ago but now i dont think ill watch it ever again...

pd. Dead Space is a kick ass game and lots of things are inspired on this movie tho, specially at the beginning of it.

edit: I found the PQ & AQ pretty good for a film like this. i'd give it 4/5 PQ and 4/5 AQ

I'll disagree about the quality of the film. I think it's excellent and up there with other genre pictures like Aliens. As Carl Yung's 'archetype' of the anima/animus go, Event Horizon is one of the best and is still in my nightmares.

I will agree with you concerning Dead Space. It is an amazing survival horror that is downright terrifying.

It's just one of the rescue guys standing there isn't it? Couldn't see any dark figure when I had a look.

Hmmm. I don't recall having any trouble with the dialog at all. I really like the sound in the movie. It's a bit heavy-handed, but it's the sound that creates the suspense here for me.

Ah, Event Horizon, back when Paul W.S. Anderson was a good filmmaker.

Event Horizon has always been one of my favorite horror movies since I first saw it. I remember going into it not expecting much, and being surprised at how creepy many of the scenes are in the film. The design of the inside of the space ship is great.

Just re watching this again & its kinda weird the Lewis "search & rescue" guys aren't equipped with any weapons. At least something for protection. No guns on them as they board the ghost ship. Only after all hell breaks loose did the leader guy get a weapon off the EH.

“Event Horizon” Director’s Cut Has Been Lost

http://www.darkhorizons.com/event-ho...has-been-lost/

At the time it was obviously a compromised film, one where various moments and beats had been excised. Pushed to edit the film in just four weeks, Anderson’s rough cut clocked in at 130 minutes which was then tested with bad results and reports of some test audience members fainting.

Pushed to cut down on the gore and the runtime, the final cut clocked in at just 95 minutes and had mixed reviews, but in the years since it has achieved cult status and has grown more appreciated with time.

Quote:
“There was a lot more that was shot that isn’t in the movie. But you’ll never see the messed up version because we made Event before the kind of DVD revolution. You know, DVD ushered in this era when you had to have additional footage, deleted scenes, things like that.

There was no call for that back when we were just doing VHS cassettes and LaserDiscs. So the material just wasn’t archived very well, and since the movie became a big cult classic, Paramount has asked us to come back in and do different versions and we looked for the material, and it just doesn’t exist.”
The most notable cut, a scene which remains only in fragments in the film as video logs of the EH’s crew going mad, is what has been dubbed the ‘bloody orgy’ scene partly filmed by second unit director Vadim Jean.

A combination of real-life amputees, accident victims, porn actors, and a ton of special effects make-up was used to render gruesome scenes of mutilation far more graphic than the already extreme stuff seen in the film.

I don't believe any of this.

I think Anderson is just covering for his lack of talent.

Paramount got cold feet when they saw how bad the film was and dumped into theatres as a crash and burn release with barely any publicity.

Old news and nothing new in that Dark Horizons post. It would be great if the missing footage existed, but I don't think it will happen. Although anything is possible. Just look at Nightbreed. I won't be holding my breath though.

Why would you need guns on a deserted ship?

I haven't seen the movie in years, thought it was pretty cool. the ambient thrumb of the EH's engines was significant. thought most of the gore was cool but that one video sequence had real terror to it. That hell orgy played on my mind for sometime, (it looked like we were watching someone place his arm into his own throat to remove his internal organs.) I reckon that was inspiration for an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, season 3 with the Vulcan's lost in the expanse, their zombie like nature was very similar. Maybe it was a video replay played back to the Vulcan/Starfleet council iirc?.

Always liked EH the blu looks and sounds good. Think the ending is open to interpretation by the viewer. Think a prequel to this would be a good idea. My only thing with the blu is it doesn't come with the original artwork.

Isn't the AR all wonky on the BR release? That's the only thing preventing me from getting it...
