I liked 'Adventures of baron Munchausen'.Really got a different feel to it from the DVD,and colours, blacklevel and sharpness was bumped up.Ok,abit grainy, but I really felt like I was having a theatrical atmosphere watching that film on my 46" fullHD screen.

Maybe it helps it being one of my top 10 movies too

This is a thread about Blu titles which keep the grain.
Okay, which titles out of the Dirty Harry series keep the grain including Dirty Harry and Magnum Force?

I keep telling you users, GIMME OLDER TITLES DAMMIT!

You need to chill with the attitude, seriously. It's really off-putting.

The reason I posted that link is so others could take a look at the mega-thread where we've already been discussing the blu-rays with the best transfers. No where did I mention or allude to anything about "3D pop" or removing grain.

Jeez...

No no no, I'm just talking in general about the 3D POP thing since I consider the nomenclature a bunch of malarkey.

I still stand by my wanting to add older titles to the list! I'm gonna look online to alot of screencapture sites I go on for some ideas.
Isn't American Psycho (AUS) superior to the US one?

Should I blind buy the AUS release? Which AUS e-tailer is the best for prices and shipping? I don't mind importing it's just I've never ordered anything from Australia before.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Assault on Precinct 13

(original releases, NOT the re-makes)

I don't know if Precinct 13 counts since it was a Lowry restoration, but the original TCM defintely should be used as the standard on how you can make an old low budget film look brand new while still retaining the grain and old school charm that it is known for.

They still look very good, but film-like is not the most accurate characterization I would use for them.
Okay. I have never seen Dr. No and From Russia with Love in the theaters. So, I cannot compare. However, I felt that they have the filmic look and far superior to electronically enhanced some recent blu-ray transfers with electronic-like look.

If you like martial arts films at all, I highly recommend Ip Man, confidently enough for even a blind buy. I don't really watch them much anymore, I think I've kind of grown away from those kinds of movies, but Ip Man might be the best martial arts movie I've ever seen. Love it.

This is true. By going back to the original negative, the original film that was in the camera on the day, they were able to get the purest look possible.

As for Goldeneye, I preferred the Ultimate Edition transfer. It looked more like I remember it looked in theaters and the Special Edition DVD while it looked fine, looked a little overly bright for my taste. The framing was a non-issue for me, as it made no discernible difference. Given Campbell's involvement in the DVD, he may have helped with the transfer as well.

I'd add.

Quantum of solace
La Vie En Rose
Resident Evil: Extinction
Sunshine
AVP: Requiem
Babel (the grain is obsoletely beautiful in this film)

This is the second time im hearing about LD removing grain from their movies. someone else mentioned the samething here https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...54&postcount=9

Why do they do that? i thought LD was similar to criterion in keeping grain intact?

They do. Check out the restoration on Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Once Upon a Time in the West, and of course the Bond films. They all have very film-like transfers, IMO.

My Polish version of Equilibrium and The Enemy at the Gates. They're both great in this regard.
