In owning a 720p TV,I can say with NO hesitation that Blu-Ray on a 720p display is still Awesome.I have yet to see 1 instance of using a 720p screen for my Blu-Rays that make me regret the combination.

And you don't take into account viewing distance, which removes any validity to your claim......

The vast majority of casual home viewers don't sit at a "reference" viewing distance..... in fact, my wife would probably think I was nutty if I pulled a chair up that close to our T.V.

Blu-ray offers a much greater color spectrum over DVD, so regardless of resolution, Blu-ray has that, and the audio aspects, that make it a worthwhile upgrade over DVD......

Also, the point where some people may "Notice" the increased resolution, and the point where it becomes "much better" are two different places....

The jump from 480p to 720p is much more noticeable than the jump from 720p to 1080p at any given display size, and viewing distance.

I find Blu-ray is way more enjoyable even on a standard definition CRT!
There is just way more detail in shadows, less pixelation and macro-blocking, and the audio is far superior.

Viva la Blu.

yeah.... well also CRT offers the best color reproduction in my opinion.....

When I get a space large enough.... I might get a 1080i capable CRT projector.... I've always loved CRTs.... Plasma and LCD just don't have as natural of a picture....

Anyways.... I agree, and it kills me to see people with 200+ movie collections who's only source of audio comes from the speakers built into their T.V..

Once you get a nice audio setup, you'll want to re-watch all of your Blu-rays!

Yea I dont get that at all. Thats great you like movies, but if you would have not bought like half those, and put the money towards a decent set of speakers, you would be better off. IDK

Hi Sandy!

First I must apologize for the misspelling, I did not know it was spelled with a K...(BaKmi). On to my story.........

I know about Indonesian food as I was born and raised in The Netherlands, and as you well know there is a huge community of Indonesian expatriots living there. As such, we frequented Indonesian restaurants all of the time, but there is more. My mother is an excellent cook and she obtained a recipe from some place and started making it at home. It's a dish we always looked forward to when presented on the dinner table. Some of my siblings preferred the Nasi Goring dish better, but I've always been more of a "noodle" fan. She always used "egg noodles" as they are lighter, but I suspect the traditional way is to serve them with "rice noodles"? I obtained the recipe from her and usually make it about twice a year for myself. Wonderful dish!

Thank you for your offer to come and visit you, and if I ever win some money I shall take you up on that. I've been fortunate to have visited Europe, Africa, North America, South America, but never Asia or Australia. I must get to that one day!.

John

Yeah I have not used the TV speakers in many years. Cant watch movies threw the TV speakers they sound crappy to me. Yeah the last time I watched a movie threw TV speakers was in a hotel room a couple years ago.Rented 28 Weeks Later in my hotel room And I remember sitting there watching it and saying to myself "This sounds terrible!"
Yeah I also I have a brother who still watches movies threw TV speakers.I keep asking him when he was going to buy a home theater system and saids I cant afford it and I pointed out to him he could a buy a Home Theater system in a box at Best Buy or even Walmart for less then $200 now. I think Sony has one with a price tag of $199?

Hi, first time poster!
I recently got a 50" Panasonic 720p screen. I sit about 13 ft (appx. 3.9 meters) away from the screen, and the pictures are amazing, especially in HD. My question is will I notice a difference in quality between what I see in the HD channels I get and blu-ray?
Yesterday I saw The Dark Knight and it was amazing, and since I want to get a blu ray player, I got curious and wondered about it.

One thing i noticed about the HD channels on my cable is that they get pixelated during action or graphical scenes. With blu ray, those same movies dont do it.

That is a issue with your cable signal being weak. Nothing to do with whether the set is 720p or 1080p.

My brother has Samsung LCD 1080p and we watched blu-ray's at his house and they looked good. But i just bought a 50" Panny plasma 720p and the blu-ray's look noticeably better on my TV and its only 720p

so your answer is yes they will look good and some 720p TV's are better than cheaper 1080p's. Don't be all convinced that all 1080p TV's are bettert han 720p's because thats not true

I just bought a 768p Samsung Plasma at 42 Inches. While in the store I compared a 50 Inch samsung at 1080p vs 768P Samsung. The 2 tv's were side by side. The fact of the matter at 5FT away I could not tell the difference on most things that were shown on the screen. I did notice that nature shots on the 1080P looked a little sharper. However, a couple of movie shots looked better at 768P than on 1080p.

Remember, that the manufacturers need to make 1080P seem a lot better than 720P or actually 768p or why would you ever pay the extra money for the greater definition?

When BR came out all you can watch it on was at 720P and everyone thought it was great. So why should it be worse now? If anything I would say BR at 720P should be better than it was 2 years ago due to better contrast ratio, better black reproduction, stronger colour paletes of the newer TV's

What was the source and how was it connected? Same cabling and same source for both sets? Same source resolution? Same panel specs? Same year?

I don't understand what you mean here. If BR = Blu-ray (BD) then there were plenty of 1080p sets on the market when Blu-ray came out.

Both TV's were the same year. The models were PN50B540 which is 1080p and PN50B450 at 720p. The store was Best Buy the source was identical to all sets on the plasma wall. The settings were the same as well. Since I have a 42inch model. (To be clear I bought the 42 inch TV a few days earlier I was in the store again later to look for something else when I saw the two TV's side by side.) So I was able to quickly go through the menu as I was familiar with the 42 inch model.

I am not certain as to the type of signal as best buy was showning a feed that was exlusive to BB as it contained marketing info and other BB advertising. The rep as the store said it was a 1080i feed for all televisions with the same connections. A look behind the TV's confirmed that the hook ups apreared the same.

When BR first appeared on the sceen there were 1080p TV's available however, 720p panels made up a much larger percentage than they do today. Many reviews were done with 720P settings and the reviews claimed great picture quality.

However Samsung did have other higher end 50 inch TVs that looked clear than both the 540 and 450 but they were alot more money. One would wonder why they would put the 540 near the 450 if the diff in PQ is not so easily recognizable
