I'll back you up on that.

I'm one who didn't like Nicholson as the Joker.

I'll also go with the obvious answers like Ford as Indy.

You will be hard pressed to find someone with as little talent as Vin Diesel, so yeah, I'll give you that.

I would like to see it but there's a good reason why it hadn't happened. Even though it's TV, it's hard to find a replacement for Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. She made that role works.

Jimmy Stewart can't be replaced in Harvey, but sadly they're going to try.

Vin Diesel? Really?

I'd go more with someone like John Wayne, as much as I like the Coens and Jeff Bridges, good luck remaking True Grit.

Actually, John Wayne was replaced in a remake, twice:

Rio Bravo was remade as El Dorado with Wayne starring in it but not as the same character.

Then Rio Bravo was remade again in 1976 as Assault on Precint 13 which is considered a John Carpenter classic.

Finally Rio Bravo got a third remake but this time as 2005's Assault on Precint 13 which was actually a remake of the 1976 film.

So yeah, John Wayne can be replaced especially after he did those recent beer commercials.

I personally believe that a movie should never be remade if it meets 2 requirements

A. It is a classic and an all time great movie, i.e. 12 angry men or Vertigo

B. The movie is less than 25 years old

That is just me but if the movie is already great and awesome then why does it need to be remade? Just watch the original!

Just to get this out of the way, and of course it's not a classic, but nobody can replace Kate Beckinsale as Selene in the Underworld series.

I agree.

I wonder if they took your criteria into account when they decided to remake The Karate Kid (Obviously not because it violates requirement A)

I think Rhona Mitra did a pretty good job plus, like Maria Bello replacing Rachel Weisz in the The Mummy films, Mitra's body looks like it was definitely built to handle a fight.

Oh, and another film that suffer if it were remade today: Clue. Absolutely spot on chemisty between the cast, great story (stories?), and brilliant acting by everyone involved.
