Seriously though, I don't mind if the moderators let Moonphase take over the OP, I've been too busy to keep it updated as much as I like. Though at least this keeps the thread on the front page; I'm not sure if editing the OP bumps the thread.

Btw, if you haven't seen yet, the "Stip" option is apparently just for costume changes, phrased in a naughty way. Typical Ar Tonelico.

Also, I've been worried about the initial screenshots; a lot of them don't look that good. It seems like they're using an odd lighting model, and there's not very many shadows being cast on the environment. However, their strange art direction does make for some really nice shots (thanks to Durante from gaf for pulling these out of the .swf):

Well not that I mind or anything but i'm fine the way it is now but I think it's more up to the mods if they want to change the thread which would also mean changing the title for this thread as well.

Those pics are very nice

I kind of figured the Strip option had to have some kind of innuendo behind it but yeah it's typical Ar Tonelico to make an innuendo about clothing and the outfits but however those costumes is totally different then from before.

Preview from an Ar Tonelico fan event. Mostly from the intro (guessing), but also has short clips of the main character wandering around environments, and even some short battle clips! Wonderous stuff, really, the intro animation reminds me of Gankutsuou.

Some tidbits from various event attenders:

-Battle system reminicent of ToA/ToV, free movement on 3D field
-Dive system allows you to obtain Hymma, Hymma are used to synthesize hymnos during battles
-RAH system is rather dynamic...battle music changes quite a bit depending on Hymma combination, battle situation, etc
-Undressing is rather important...

I wonder if having Cocona narrate the event should be like a spoiler because I mean some people say she might be in Ar Tonelico 3 because of the way Ar Tonelico 2 ended but it could just be a fan's opinion.

But it does look amazing

Nah, I figure it's just a random character from a previous game. I try not to read too much into who's narrating fan events. Maybe the VA is voicing somebody in the third game...?

(Actually, I'm pretty sure multiple VAs are returning, it's part of how we knew Ar Tonelico 3 was in development iirc)

edit: I ended up deleting that line from my posts so people don't try to read too much into it. It's not important either way, so no point in confusing people further.

Well could just be another reappearance kind of like how Ar Tonelico 2 did with the Ar Tonelico 1 characters

Interesting that they went to a Tales battle engine. Will be much harder to keep the fragile singers safe, wouldn't you think?
I wonder if this is going to follow the formula of the first 2 with it having 2 obvious girl choices right from the beginning, and introducing a 3rd girl later on after you've (theoretically) started down an ending path for one of the originals. I felt bad in #1 essentially 'leaving' my first choice because I had no idea the 3rd was coming. It was easier in 2 since I hated both choices.

Ar Tonelico 2 has 4 choices while the 1st only had 3.

Well I think that was the whole point because fans were complaining that Ar Tonelico games are to easy and so Gust came up with a way to make this 3rd game more harder. Like when defending the Revyateils in the 2nd game all you had to do was press or at the right time depending on which Revyateil you had to defend and if it was a multiple hit then you would have to do that multiple times and if you screwed up the girls start complaining at you at your lack of defending(especially in the 1st game). The bosses sometimes have some challenge to beat them but not really impossible to beat as long as you charge up your Revyateil's song magic high enough while defending them in the defense phase so i'm kind of interested in how the bosses will be this time with this new battle system.

When heroines in upcoming PS3 role-playing-game Ar Tonelico III activate in-game songs, their costumes show more and more flesh. This, explains producer Atsunori Kawachi, is for a very important reason.

By showing more skin, they are able to absorb more of the planet's energy," said the producer at a recent press event.

Continuing, he added, "The world can only be saved because the heroines took off their clothes!"

Interesting that the Sega forums would have a thread for Ar Tonelico 3 but it does mention what the director has to say about the R.A.H.

Quote:
Hello,

I am Tsuchiya [Akira] of Gust and am being allowed to direct the Ar Tonelico series. On the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month from now until release date, I am hoping to report to you, development secrets and the current state of the Ar Tonelico series, primarily Ar Tonelico 3.

The first few episodes are entitled "The Memories Entrusted to Ar Tonelico 3" and familiar to the fans of the series, I'd like to talk about "This time, we shoved a lot of love into this!" In this episode, I'd like to talk about "RAH" which is one of those aspects.

Ar Tonelico 3, will be the series debut on the PS3, and will also be the first time this series has been release outside of the PS2. With new hardware, we can do different things from before! That said the idea lover in me had a fluttering heart that was beating full steam ahead. In particular, in the current game scene, it's hardware that's on the cutting edge, so the possibilities are endless. Thus, all that remained was how many ideas we could come up with! After the PS3 had been decided on as the console, I spent days upon end shaking the controller around, dicking around with the XMB configurations, and playing other company's games, to get ideas of how to create something fun. As a result of that, I'm proud to say that we have a number of great ideas that we'll be able to deliver to everyone.

This has already been introduced in [Famitsu], but in particular, we put a lot of effort into the "RAH System". This is a multichannel streaming music constructing system that was made possible due to the PS3's power and the help from CRI of Middleware. In the past, on the PS2 and what not, there have been a few games that build music automatically, but I believe music building with vocals, tempo changes, and key changes are a first. We got a little greedy and the number of music constructing parts increased exorbitantly. This resuted in us currently working all-nighters to fine tune the system, but we will work hard to make it a great system.

From the gamer's side, you will be doing music construction via song synthesis, but we've added a little twist so that song synthesis isn't "putting music together (using a music application)". Thus, the system should appeal to even those that aren't keen with music. I can't talk about it in greater detail now, but it would be great if people could really delve in and get into that aspect. And finally, if the music that everyone creates ultimately permeates into conversations and discussions, from the developer side of things, that would make us very happy.

And I will leave it at that for now.
Let's meet again on the 2nd Friday of November!

1. World Information – An introduction to the 3rd installment of the Ar Tonelico series, a background of the 3rd tower and the world, and also a background to Aoto’s hometown

Ar Tonelico 3’s world – Sol Cluster is pretty much dominated by β-class Reyvatail which are the ruling class. They reside in the country of Clustania. The ideal world to them consists only of Reyvateils and purified humans. Purified humans are inferior to the Reyvatails. The rest of the humanity stays in the land of 大牙 (Great Fang)?. It is a pretty dark world as compared to the previous Ar Tonelico series imo.

Something about the β-class Reyvatails was unveiled too, which they have some kind of organization ?

2. Character information – Aoto (CV: Sugiyama Noriaki) , Saki (CV: Goto Mai) and Finnel (CV: Kitamura Eri) ’s information unveiled

Saki is a Reyvateil born in a research lab, her purpose in this world is to create a impact or influence to the world. She had escaped before the plan for her was being executed. After several years, she met Aoto. Upon reaching the state of extreme emotional tension, she can execute a power known as Kiseki (Miracle)

Finnel is born in Clusternia, the country of Reyvateils, she is a clumsy girl who works in Yokkora, a restaurant established on the Eternal Road. She seems to have a significant connection to the very existence of Clusternia. She is a β-class reyvatail.

Aoto is the main male lead in this game, showing a dislike towards Clusternia. A strong responsibility to finish anything he started but he does not think about consequences when he act. His dislike of Clusternia turns into hate when he finds about Saki’s history. Aoto’s hometown is in Great Fang which is battered by the elements of the world, a strong contrast to the Clusternia.

I'm assuming this is from the fan event, but the big screen behind the panelists shows a full battle. Definitely looking like a Tales battle system; looks like protecting the reyvateils is handled the same way you protect casters in Tales games - you run around attacking monsters that get too close to them. There is some sort of canned guard animation, I don't know how that's involved though.

and lol at whatever is happening at the 1:13 mark...
