Any time a series runs for multiple seasons, and then gets canceled without a proper finale, I feel ripped off. If a show doesn't make it past season 1, then I'm a little more forgiving. First seasons are basically try-outs. But if a show keeps coming back over the years, builds a mythology, and then is suddenly dropped with no resolution... yeah. Not cool.

Spike also helped make Angel s5 one of the best seasons of Angel. That show had at least a season more in it I think =/.

Didn't Angel end with a pretty large cliffhanger? That's what I was complaining about in my post. Five seasons and no resolution. That's awful.

That's what I like about Supernatural. From the beginning they had a five season plan. Most American shows never plan on ending so when they do they aren't able to wrap up the plot.

I generally hate most TV because most shows are designed very formulaically with no end in sight. Characters rarely change and story arcs are largely absent. Of course, many modern shows like "Lost" aren't like this, but it amazes me that some things like "Firefly," "Fastlane," "Witchblade," "Dark Angel," "Sarah Connor Chronicles," all only lasted 1-2 seasons while "Friends" lasted 10 seasons and "The Simpsons" is going on 20. What made "Friends" so great that it had to last a whole decade? It's like 10 years of people chatting. But they couldn't finish off these other shows which actually had strong stories going? Ugh. I've come to believe that some of the best shows on TV are these short-lived ones that have been cancelled before their times.

And that's also why I enjoy anime shows over live-action. Sometimes I feel that one season of a show like "Evangelion" boasts more wicked action, deeper characterization, and smarter stories than other shows that last longer.

So that's whats ticking me off about TV in general.

Carnivale was cut after 2 seasons and on a big cliffhanger. HBO easily could have let this series continue but choses to leave fans in the dark. Another reason why I have not subscribed to HBO since.

I agree with that. The ending was not a definite ending. The characters were scattered in different timelines. Left unresolved, this situation would completely change any subsequent timelines. Obviously the producers had some kind of idea about how they would reunite John and Sarah way, but it is not obvious how they would do that, short of turning the series into "John Connor and his Magical Time Machine".

I was a fan of the show, but feel like the writers of the series let me down. There were so many ideas unexplored or only superficially mentioned (John and Cameron's relationship, was Cameron pure metal or did she undergo some humanization?, Who was John Henry's "brother"?, Does Sarah have Cancer?).

I wish they could make a movie, or at least two hour made-for-TV episode to tie up some of the loose ends. It was a great idea, and the show had great potential, but the writing and directions it took were poorly executed.

OH MY GOD, that's another show cut off before its time! I demand a new season, or a series of films to complete the story!!!

I think networks would do well to greenlight and guarantee set numbers of episodes. There should be an implicit agreement between the producers, the networks, and the audience, that they should aim to tell a single complete story in the prescribed episode count unless more episodes are ordered before they are complete.

I would much rather see US networks do 13 episodes of a freshman series and guarantee that they will show all 13 and that the 13 episode will provide a satisfying conclusion to the story. If you get 13 great episodes and a conclusion great. If they decide to do another 13 episode run, even better.

Didn't make any money, and the show got canceled, welcome to Hollywood kid.

Is that true? That sucks. The show is so fun and creepy. And John Noble is so superb in every scene he's in. He should win an emmy.

To answer the poll question,

Actually I think the more accurate question would be, have you ever felt like a network ripped you off?

It was FOX who screwed up Firefly and Arrested Development.

It's usually the network that screws up the show, not always but usually.

Great show that even had high ratings.

Still only got 13 episodes.

Good observation. In terms of a TV show that felt like it was ripping me off, I would probably go with Ally McBeal. Whenever the show would hit a good stride, it would purge some of the cast and bring in new folks. Very frustrating to stay with it.

It didn't, actually. Joss knew it was ending and left his heroes fighting the good fight. That was the ending - they fight on.

Really? I know they were expecting to do a 6th season based on the ratings, but politics killed it. I wasn't aware that they wrote that ending knowing it was the end, though. That was seriously the intended ending? That's weak IMO. It left fans scratching their heads rather than satisfied.

I started losing interest last season, perhaps because of the increasingly disjointed (and annoying) flashbacks and flashfowards, apparent mundane explanations for things that started out as "cool" mysteries, and overall it just seemed to be getting tired.

What, Lost? Wow. Can't agree on any level. By far the one show that never let's me down. Just one amazing episode after another. The reveals have been great, and the characters are strong. And that season 5 finale... fantastic. To each his/her own. Personally, I'm shaking with anticipation for season 6.
