If you want more advice jump over to head-fi, just beware to be carefull as whilst some members are extremely usefull, others seem to think to know everything but know nothing (or post recommendations based on what they have read, not what they have heard).

Does it need to be portable and what is your budget? I would stay clear ofd the d2boa if you do intend to continue upgrading later down the line. If so I would also recommend the cobra over the d2boa if your budget allows. Also a crossfeed is a must for headphones, that is if you want them to sound like speakers soundstage wise but without all the issues speakers can have.

I should note I haven't tried the srh840's but looking at the specs they shouldn't be all that hard to drive. Still, no headphone is really hard to drive, there just hard to drive well. (HD800 bieng an absolute bugger as you really have to spend over $1000 on a dedicated headphone amp before it trully comes into it's own).

From what I have read, the Arrow is great for its price. It's comparable to Pico Slim and other higher end amps. The Arrow is made in Germany and it cost 250 and production been hold back till June.

here is a good review for Arrow

I would wait for reviews, look at how b and w's entry into headphones went. It (the p5) was terrible, absolutly horrible. It should be better then the boa, but it would be interesting to hear it and the cobra back to back. Personally though if your big into audio and are willing to save up I would strongly reccomend the benchmark dac1 (you can buy it second hand for around $650US), it is at the level where preferences between dacs is exactly that, there is no real quality difference (imho), and the headphone amp is capable, but for harder to drive phones a better amp is recommended.

The amps I use are a balanced beta22 and a balanced mini3, that bieng said both would be overkill for your needs and generally run for $1500 [at least] and $450 respectively. I would be looking at an ibasso d2 boa, which is both a descent dac and amp that goes for around $150 from memory.

It however comes down to how much you are willing to spend, do you have a budget in mind? I would also ignore reviews as very few are all that usefull in my opinion.
The Beta22 balanced is easily one of the best headphone amps on the market.. Too bad it's not mass produced.. You have to pay someone to make it for you, unless you are a good DIYer.. But I doubt any amp comes close for the price you paid.

I don't want to go crazy or anything (price-wise), but I would be interested in getting a Headphone Amp or a DAC/Headphone Amp. Any suggestions on the lower end of the price scale?

John

PS~ I assure you I am not cheap, but for the amount of time I use them I don't want something stratospheric in price.

John, perhaps you might like to kill a few birds with one stone ??? How about a headphone amp, 2-CH Preamp, & DAC for $289 + shipping ??? On top of that you get a lifetime warranty.

Little dot makes all sorts of cool products (SS & tube) for great prices. I also "think" they have a dealer up by you. EDIT: On second thought I think it is Burson that has a rep up your way.

Been looking into a headphone rig myself and have really been interested in little dot & Burson.

I bought a cMoy amp from http://www.jdslabs.com for $70 and I really love it. I love the whole Altoids can look. I used it to power my monitor headphone jack since it wasn't loud enough for two people to listen to a movie through a splitter. Even capable of being plugged into an outlet so no need for batteries. Though you have to buy the outlet kit separate but instructions are provided on specifically what to buy if you don't know. For as cheap as it is you might want to check it out.

I use a Schiit Magni hooked to my Onyko C7030 cd player. It powers any of my five headphones. Even my AKG K340 electrostaics. For $99.00 it's a great little amp. American made with a two year warranty.

Yeah, Schiit is a fantastic company. I recently just ordered a BiFrost, and a Valhalla. Should be here next week.
