Nightmare before Christmas has zero motion blur, and there's very precise data, including mition control data still in existance for that. It's a special case

Live action fake 3D also gives a large percentage of thep population headaches due to it being nearly impossible to get the precision you can get with CG with the fake

While I think converting 2d movies to 3d is a ridiculous idea, wouldn't that mean they'd need to create a new digital master of the films? Probably a good thing for the inevitable blu-rays, I'd say. The HDTV versions I've seen are pretty bad.

haha Very true. The funny thing is I always watch them on Spike even though I have them all on DVD.

George Lucas needs to have a long conversation with James Cameron about 3D

He stated that do 3D right it needs to be shot digitally...it looks more clean. Later he says after looking at A New Hope in 3D, you kind of forget you're looking at a 3D movie. You're right he kind of just leaves it hanging, but it sounds like all in all he wasn't too impressed. Perhaps he's still working on it.

To be perfectly honest, I'm FRIGGIN jealous of ALL these film makers that are friends. They go to rough cut showings of movies in THEATERS of other films (like he said with Taxi Driver). We have NO IDEA how much stuff is cut from films, the good and bad. I would LOVE to sit and see a rough cut of something like A New Hope or Taxi Driver. I think that life would be amazing

It’s sad that you’re 30 and I’m 42 because I like many original fans have seen it projected in 1977 and 1980 and 83.

Lucas can keep the 3D! I doubt the 2D will have the originals intact 1to 1 with mirror image picture quality that would match up transparently with the original prints on projection screen. I’d be really impressed most impressed if he gets his own head out of this blabber a$£ and stop jerking us around with this milking SCAM!

Good luck to the rest of you non-original fans.

I saw "Jedi" when I was 5, one of the first movies I can remember. It left quite an impression on me.

One thing I find interesting is this angle Lucas keeps taking on the prequels and the TV show, he spoke about this on The Daily Show last week. He confronts the "prequel haters" by saying young people love the newer films, but hate the originals. Where are these people? They're old enough now to come out and blog about it, but I've never really heard anybody backing the newer films. Also, he seems reluctant to see that not just kids liked the original trilogy, but now contends that Star Wars is strictly for children. If you watch the new Star Trek, Iron Man, Batman, etc. you can see the appeal for not just a younger audience but more mature ones as well. Anyways, hopefully there will be some glimmer of hope that he re-edits the newer films to make them more tolerable, but I highly doubt it.

Not quite, but at least not try to make what's not 3D into 3D, except computer animation.

However it only works if alot of time and money is put into it. Which is why players that convert 2D Blu-Rays to 3D on the fly I believe are a bad idea and will have shitty results. If done right Star Wars can be converted the same way as previous conversions and look great
I never saw the 3D Nightmare, so I can't comment. However, I have a hard time seeing how 3Ding 2D live action can work. Who knows.

I would think Episode III would look quite good in 3D seeing it was shot digitally (along with Ep II). Probably the best film of the prequels.

I love Star Wars and would see all 6 in the theaters in 3D but I don't think I will redo my home theater setup in 3D for these at home. Too much money.
I do hope he makes the 2D version available for BLU soon.
